I have light and heat sensitive chronic migraines, which lead to nausea and dizzyness. I'm all ginger/bonine/sunglassed/baseball cap'd up for my trip to Universal this weekend, but was wondering if anyone had any experiences with any of the biggies (mainly hulk or D, plus dr doom). Did you go crazy not wearing your sunglasses on the rides? Did Hulk really do a number on you (my migraineless brother said he got dizzy after Hulk)?

I haven't been on the rollercoasters, but the roar of the Hulk and the music in the Marvel Super Hero area is pretty loud, and it feels kind of chaotic, so just a little warning in case that kind of atmosphere makes things worse for you. Good luck, I admire you for not letting the migranes keep you from going. Also Finnegans, the pub in Universal is the perfect cool and kind of dark place for a nice rest. Have fun!

Wanted to add in case you didn't know that there is a bright hot fire ball thing at the end of Spiderman. It only lasts a few seconds.

Thanks-I didn't know that about Spiderman! I figure I can get migrainey and icky in MA, or be migrainey and icky on vacation!

I've had migraines for years. (I'm working on getting rid of a two-dayer right now.) At UO, there are few things that I avoid, and that includes roller coasters. My DS loves coasters, and I'm his coaster buddy. But, I've found that doing two coasters right in a row was a bad thing for my head. Also, I'm not very fond of Spiderman. There's a simulated drop in Spiderman that gets me every time and that seems to trigger migraines. The new Simpsons ride in UF was not a happy place for me, either. (It also made my DH and DS queasy. Nothing makes my DS queasy.)

If you're heat sensitive, make sure to take lots of breaks. We tour in the morning and try to leave the parks by 2:00 in the afternoon (with lots of breaks and eating an early lunch). I also never go into any of the parks without my imitrex -- or whatever works for you.

Hope you have a great time!

Julie

I'm back-my migranes were really acting up, so i skipped most big rides (I did the Mummy, but had to close my eyes at one point.

The big thing I learned is that due to the heat I wasn't hungry, and therefore barely ate (triggering a migraine). I'm kind of glad we have a lot of ADR's for WDW in August, so I'll be forced to eat.

my migraines are very heat sensitive and without being prepared can be very debilitating. However i have done US/IOA with them, i was prepared with my sunglasses/visor/ and was i think overly hydrated and ate plenty haha and i managed. the hulk did make me light headed so when i got off of it i just got in line for spider man (the que goes inside an AC building) and had some water and was fine. I skipped dr. doom but did both fire and ice back to back on dueling dragons and was perfectly fine. I think as long as you are prepared and realize that if you start to feel off you just need to take a break you shouold be fine

I would avoid The Hulk. Not only is the queue loud and frenetic, but the ride itself was difficult on me. At one point my head hit the restraint hard enough to trigger a day long migraine (I either get the warning lights blinding pain ones, or the dull ache that won't go away all day - this was one of those).
