Has anyone used the RER from CDG?

Hello everyone,

DS and I travel a week on Thursday to DLP (staying at the Sequioa Lodge). Normally I'd have planned my trip to death, but I've been so busy at work I'm winging it a bit.

Anyway, my Easyjet flight only gets in at 9.25pm, exactly the same time as the last direct train leaves, so that's out. Similarly the bus stops running two hours before. So my options are either the RER or the taxi.

Being a bit cheap (and trying to make this a budget trip) I'm hoping to get the RER. Has anyone taken this route before? Is it safe, efficient etc? Or would I be better off cutting my losses and getting a taxi?

Thanks for your help.

Can't help with RER but would suggest that given arriving at CDG with DS I'd want to get straight to hotel.
Worth having a look at some of the private shuttle companies on the Useful Info thread. :thumbsup2

I agree with Reid. Probably, the best way it's a private shuttle. Fast and secure

HI
Are you flying from Liverpool by any chance...this is the flight we usually get, and we generally tend to get the RER to DLP. You will need to walk to the RER station from the terminal...takes about 5-10 minutes. Then you will need to buy tickets to Marne-la-Vallee, take the RER to a station in Paris called Chatelet-les-Halles (about 45 minutes). Here you will need to get off and change onto the Marne-la-Vallee train. This is easy because you just get off the train and walk to the other track on the same platform. Sometimes there can be a bit of a wait here for the train. The train to Marne-la-Vallee takes about another 45 minutes. You will get off at the Disneyland Paris station itself, and from here you can catch a shuttle to your hotel (or walk if on site).
If you are delayed though you can arrive too late to catch a shuttle bus and you will need to get a taxi.
If you decide to take this route and you need to know more about it then send me a pm. The price is about 17 euros for an adult and children are less but they need to be under 10 years old to be classed as a child.
As far as safety goes, we have never had any trouble, but you do sometimes get buskers and begging people on the trains.
You may prefer to take a private shuttle, as we are doing this time, as we are a party of 11 this time.

. . . and pickpockets.

Chatelet-les-Halles is a REALLY big station. We just returned from a trip with our 4yr old dd. We chose to do shuttles to and from the airport (for beginning and ending our trip to Paris), but we did take the RER to CDG for picking up our rental car (only on part of our trip), and we took the RER from our apartment to DLP. We also had to change trains at Chatelet-les-Halles. We found it to be quite a hike with our dd, our stroller, and all of our bags. It's do-able, but it can be a little intimidating. I have heard pickpockets can be bad on the lines from CDG, but never experienced anything like that.

I would just think about how mobile you can be with all your "stuff", while making sure that your kids are safe. Interestingly, the people who sold us our tickets never charged us for our dd (she's 4). I am not sure whether they were supposed to or not, but we were never stopped and questioned about it.

I hope you have a wonderful time!!

Thanks so much everyone for all your help and comments. I think I'll play it by ear. What I should've mentioned is that DS is a strapping 14 year old and that we are travelling with hand luggage only. So the RER may be more doable than normal.

I'll let you all know how I go on.

Well, I guess that does put the "stroller" imagery to rest!! ;) In that case, I think you would be fine on the RER. Just pay lots of attention to the signs at Chatelet-les-Halles.
