Has anyone used points for Hawaii?

Just wondering on the value of using points through the Concierge (sp) Collection for a stay in Hawaii. I'm planning a trip for the summer of 2006 with a family of five. Your hints, experiences and suggestions will be put to good use.

I couldn't comment on the value of using points, but we did this in 2001. We chose the Kapalua Bay hotel in Maui. We had two adjoining rooms, ground floor, on the golf course. It is a beautiful resort on a terrific part of the island. We'd go back there in a heartbeat. We also did the Mauna Lani hotel on the Big Island, which was great also. I think those both are conceirge collection resorts. If you have any questions about the resorts, I'd be happy to help you out.

We haven't used Conceirge points for Hawaii, but we did do an exchange for a week, and thought it was a terrific value! I thougth 160 points for a 1 bedroom/2 bath room was a very good value.

Spent 10 wonderful days at Kapalua on points. Upgraded to an ocean view, with 2 free nights and a huge buffet breakfast included every day. Children eat lunch free with an adult order. People say it isn't worth the points, but it sure was worth it for me. I never would have stayed there if I didn't have the points to do it.

We also used points for Kapalua and Mauna Lani. Both really lovely. I have heard reports that Kapalua is going to be removed from Concierge because of major remodeling???
Thought both places were gorgeous, but they consumed so many points that we decided to do private condo rentals this time. Stayed 1 week Maui and 1 week Big Island in great units for $1460 + tax for the 2 weeks, and these were 1 bedroom condos (Maui one was ocean front for great whale watching and BI one was ocean view), not hotel rooms. Some would prefer a hotel, but we really loved having our own little apartments in paradise. Either way, Hawaii is our SECOND favorite vacation on earth!
