Has anyone used Earplanes for their kids?

One of my kids used to have ear infections and now has a tube in one ear (the other one fell out). I'm a bit nervous that he will have discomfort in one of his ears. On the other hand, he will probably give me a hard time with trying to get the earplanes in his ear so not sure what to do. Our pediatrician said to give him a decongestant if needed and that should be fine. Any thoughts?

my kids love them.... they are a bit tricky to get in, but they do seem to help.

We're those people who get severe, sharp ear pain on landing, more often than not. Since using Earplanes, the pain is completely gone or, when I had a cold, dramatically reduced. We won't fly without them!

My DD (9) used them last year and said they made a big difference. I'll be buying them again for our April trip. Remember to keep them in until after landing (can't remeber exact insructions) -- we pulled them out a little early on the way home and she said she had more discomfort.

My DDs were crying in pain the first time they flew at age 6. Earplanes made a big difference, although they say their ears still hurt a little with Earplanes. The ear pain is a lot better than it was before though, so just hurting a little is a big improvement as far as I'm concerned.

My son who is 8 still uses them..he refused to wear them the first time, but after he experienced the pain the first time, he asks for them every time we fly.

We do give DS tylenol or Motrin if he suffers the pain, however, I guess I think of it as preventing the pain rather than covering it?:confused3

I will NEVER fly without them. They are a life saver. I get a little discomfort with them, but at least when I land my ears aren't clogged for the whole trip. Hopefully my son won't have the same problems with his ears....but if he does I will definitely be using them for him too.

Hi, just wanted to let you know that Earplanes have been a godsend to me. I had many problems with my ears growing up and as I have gotten older, I can not even ride in the car with the window down or sleep under a ceiling fan without becoming congested and having ear issues. I found ear planes at our local pharmacy and decided to give them a try. They are very easy to insert, just wait until the cabin door is shut on the plane, and I do not remove them until we land (although you can remove them when the plane reaches it's cruising altitude and reinsert before landing). It dramatically reduces the noise and I never have any issues with my ears afterwards.

As you can tell I would never travel without them!! :thumbsup2

As a note of caution I did try to use earplanes for my 10 year old DS and shortly after we put them in he started feeling nautious. It was getting really bad and I had no idea why when I thought about the earplanes...I took them out and the nausea cleared almost instantly. Sice that happened I have heard of a handful of similar experiences. Now we stick to using a decongestant and really have not had any problems.

Really? That's interesting. Yeah, I really don't want to stick anything in their ears. Which decongestant do you give him and how long before you get on the plane? I'm assuming that since it's a liquid, it can't be brough on board.

I suffer badly when landing, and had never heard of these earplanes til last week. Im off to Barcelona next week and will definitely try them out then!

My son was able to swallow pills so I gave him off brand sudafed pills just before we boarded. For my 4 year old I actually brought the liquid decongestant with me and dosed her just before going through security so that if they took the bottle she would still have the med in her...they did not take it so it was ok. If I had been thinking about it better (we flew just weeks after the liquid ban but just as they were starting to relax some of the conditions) I would have purchased the quick dissolve tablets. I think though that you could put the liquid med into the quart sized ziploc if the bottle were less than 3 oz.

As far as which type of decongestant I am a store brand purchaser...I do believe that suphedrine based products work better than the new PE formulas. The only pain is that the suphedrine products are now located behind the pharmacy counter because so many people were making crystal meth out of it. I think for my little one I used a suphedrine/ibuprofin cold type med.

Where do they sell the Earplanes???

They sell them at most drug stores for about $5, I've also found them at the airport stores for about $10.

The old packaging used to say that they were safe for children. I just bought a new pair last week and it didn't have any information about use for children (safe or not). Might want to double check w/ your pediatrician before using with young children.

They are a LIFESAVER for me! I used to suffer a pain similar to someone sticking a straight pin in my ear on landing. I would cry and cry (as an adult!). Since I've started using Earplanes, I occaisionally have some minor discomfort - but completely tolerable.
