Has anyone used an online escrow service when renting DVC Points?

We would like to rent DVC points for our next Disney trip following the one we are leaving for in a week. I am just beginning to investigate this, but I have concerns about paying and then losing my money or having something go wrong. Has anyone used an online escrow agent? How did it work and how much did it cost?

Thanks! :earboy2:

I'm sure you can find someone who has, but I can tell you that personally, as an owner, I wouldn't go through the trouble of dealing with an online escrow service. When people rent their points, they are often using the proceeds to fund their own alternative vacation plans. There are too many people out there who want to rent points to deal with the added hassle. Again, this is just MHO. Good luck!

Three words for you: Central Reservations Office

I would highly recommend taking advantage of the internet and using PayPal. The buyer gets protection from PayPal as well as the underlying credit card used and the seller gets access to their funds instantaneously. The only disadvantage is that there is a 2.9% fee that is charged to the seller.

Please feel free to PM me if you have additional questions.

Thanks for suggesting PayPal. I would generally trust anyone I rented points from, but there is that part of me that gets a little worried that I show up to check in and they don't have my reservation since I have no control over it.

I would not take PayPal for anything as large as renting DVC points. The reasons you list are the nightmarish problems for sellers. The seller is protected by shipping the product with tracking to the buyer's verified address. You have no actually product to ship unless PayPal would take reservation confirmations has product shipped by tracking. Without trackable shipping to a verified buyer's address, PayPal takes buyers complaint has valid and reverses payment.
Nickel and dime transactions - good / possible DVC rental (~150 pts. @ $10 = $1500) - bad

JMHO

I have used PayPal several times when renting points to others, but I pass the cost onto the renter because of the cost involved. I used it originally to provide a sense of security to the renter, but the cost ate up whatever money I was making, so I don't use it unless the renter is willing to pay the cost. Most people are perfectly willing to send a check.

Remember the old saying no news is good news. Also remember that with word of mouth, a bad experience is told ten times to anyone who will listen, while a good experience will never pass the lips.

Couple those two sayings with the fact that you will here about every lumpy pillow on these boards, and you can safely assume that there have been few if any DVC renting related issues (at least regarding DISers). I would rely on a DISers length of time around these boards, as well as references from previous renters. I have rented from (and to) others off of these boards, and have never had any problems.

If anything, talk to the DVC member renting you the points. So much more can be discussed than written. Fully understand that you are renting a timeshare, limited housekeeping, limited towels, etc, and you will be fine.

Good Luck!!

Brian.
