I'm trying to find the cheapest way for a family go from airport to cabana bay...can I get a uber to pick us up at the hyatt entrance of the orlando airport? Any other ideas?

In the Transportation forum there's an ongoing thread by an Orlando-based Uber driver. He might be able to answer your question. I put the address of the hotel and Universal into the quote finder, and it all said "unavailable".

Aha, googled again and found a FB page. Seems Uber hasn't been able to pick up at the airport, but now the luxury division, Uber X, WILL be able to do so.

Since the hotel there is truly inside the airport, I'm not sure if you could get an uber pickup *today* from the hotel. And once this goes into effect, it would only be X. Which might not be cheaper than a cab.

I'd just rent a car, personally.

You can go to the valet area at the Hyatt and grab Black Car SUV that will transport you for around $50.

I've been researching this out too. You used to be able to pick one up at the airport Hyatt but the airport got wise and they can't pick up there now.

People recommend catching a free hotel or rental car shuttle to get off airport property and then put in for your pick up. I don't feel comfortable with that one so the option I'm going with for my friend and I in the next couple days will be grabbing a city bus ($2/person) and hopping off after leaving the airport area to call our uber. BUT since you have a whole family I'm guessing neither of those options are good for you, I think I'd try the $50 option above if I were travelling with my whole family.

UberX is the cheapest, standard version of Uber. Uber Black is the high end luxury vehicle service that will eventually be able to operate at the Orlando airport, from what I've heard. Definitely more expensive than UberX. To my knowledge, UberX is still not permitted to pick up at the airport.

OP - PPs are correct. Because of where the Hyatt is situated (inside the airport), the GPS coordinates of the hotel will block you from being able to request the fare on Uber. Uber pick-ups are prohibited at the Orlando airport, and that includes the Hyatt because otherwise people would just say that's where they were coming from. I think your options would be to take a hotel shuttle to a hotel off-site to request UberX (or the bus anywhere as PP suggested), take a taxi, hire a car service, or rent a car.

The article had it opposite. :)

And correct, I wasn't saying that they could pick up now. But it's been approved that X will be able to. Will be. Not IS. :)

I do not know when the OP's trip is, alas...if it's tomorrow, uber probably isn't going to be an option. Next year, who knows? Orlando JUST apparently approved this...and things take time.

Do you mean UberX or Uber Black will be able to? I've only been able to find articles saying Uber Black will be able to pick up which jives with how some other airports handle the situation with Uber. More people are willing to take cabs because Uber Black is a little more expensive. Just curious because if it is in fact UberX that got approved as well, then that would be huge!

What I have read and been told when you open the app at the airport drop your pin right outside of the airport. When the driver info comes up and takes your ride, you call them and tell them you are at the airport. Most will pick you up there. A few might not want to do it and then just try again is what I was told.
