Has anyone tried using a balloon...

So, let me see if I have this right.

I can set the temperature to what I want, like 74 degrees. I get cold easily. When we are in the room moving, it air will keep it at 74. Then, when we leave or sleep the air shuts off. We are going in late July. It will be very hot outside. Will it get that hot? What if we are out all day? Wouldn't it get like 90 degrees? Does the air come on at all at a set temperature, like 80?

What if I want if 74 and I set it at 70. Then, would it stay cooler at night?
I hope I am making sense.

I believe the default-empty room temp is permanantly set to 76f. You can set your active room temp down to 65f.

All of these type of Motion Detector Thermostats can be bypassed by pressing the keys in a different sequence. If i can get the make and model of the thermostat from someone i will find out and give you the bypass sequence. When bypassed they will return to the motion detector mode after a predetermined set time. Hot potatoes, hamsters, ballons wont work, When you wake up to check to see if they are working in the middle of the night, of course the AC is on it detected you.

AHHHHHHHHHHHH schucks George! I liked my potato idea! :teeth: I guess we'll just have to rely on someone getting the thermostat make and model- I won't be there until January- 2004. Anyone going sooner then that?

Cruella, I'm at the same lovely stage in life as you.

DH and I stayed at the BCV last October, and it was exceptionally hot for that time of year.

The room was a bit warm when we entered, but it cooled off so quickly it wasn't a problem at all.

As far as sleeping, I had no problems with the room heating up. I'm always pulling the covers on or kicking them off, so maybe that was enough to keep the A/C running.

Believe me, no one is crankier or more miserable when they're hot than I am. If I found it to be comfortable, I'm sure that you will too.

Ok, here are my ideas.

1. tie a handwarmer to a balloon and let it float around the room

2. Tie a hand warmer to one of those little toys that dances to music. They have dancing hamsters or buggying santa clauses! Then either turn on the radio or sound machine. I need to have white noise anyway.

3. give your kids lots of water before bed so they have to get up alot!

LOL

I only wish I had these problems to think about, but I have to wait until Feb 2004. :o(

If Disney doesn't want to get sued, they better offer some way of disabling this feature for guest with medical conditions (i.e. asthma, menopause, high blood pressure, etc). An elevated room temp. complcates the fore-mentioned conditions.
I'm sure there are plently of medical conditions that require a 'comfortable' room temp. so not to aggrevate the condition.

BTW, 'comfortable' is very suggestive. So for some, a 68 degree room temp. maybe 'Just right' while for others, it is either 'Too Hot' or 'Too Cold'....All the more reason to allow full control of a room temp.

As for tricking the sensor...If the sensor is looking for heat motion, I would think a vaporizor would work...perhaps even tieing a ballon into the vapor stream.

Man! A vaporizer would really heat that room up!! Can you imagine that in the summer!?!?!? WOW!!!
MCAzer- the hand warmer thing is a good thought, but it would be too heavy for the balloon. BUT- I like the boogy-ing Santa and the give the KIDS lots of water ideas :teeth:
Ya know- this is what I like the most about the DIS - creativity! Keep coming up with the ideas- we'll nail one down eventually! (Unfortunately..... I think it's gonna be something boring and practical like- get the model number and make..... you know..... something that will REALLy work! :p )

Well, how's this. Buy about 5 or 6 of those mylar balloons and then tie the hand warmer to them.

Of course, if I woke up in the middle of the night and saw that with no glasses on, I would think that the grim reaper decided to visit me. LOL

Buy one of those little electric pots for potpourri. Place it near the thermostat. Fill it with canned corn and let it simmer all night. As you try to fall asleep, your mind will drift back to the hilarious canned corn threads that graced these boards in days gone by. Soon you will be laughing so hard the motion sensor will pick up your hot air and will kick into gear.

So where do you buy hand warmers? I'd better buy one now, the season is probably just about over, if its not already. Then maybe it's attaching it to some type of mechanical device that creates motion in front of the sensor, something metronome like, gently moving back and forth. Any web site's have hand warmers?

Canned corn?!?!? NAHHHHHH- I like the baked potato idea better! :teeth:

Okay.... quit wasting time trying to trick the t/stat !!!

Just leave the fridge door open.

It could be an ice cube or snowball, the act of throwing anything will trigger the motion sensor. The movement of the warm arm kicks it in. If you can make your baked potatoe move without having to wake up and throw it, you might be on to something (or not....).

Hey, now I can sell all my extra hand warmers on ebay as thermostat thwarters . Just think of the rediculous markup I could get with all those frenzied resort guests battling for these cheap things ;).

I would tell all my customers to tape the activated hand warmer to the ceiling fan. One of two things will happen....................... the sensor will detect moving heat and you are all set, or................. the hand warmer will come flying off the fan blade, hit you in the head, waking you up.............voila - heated motion. :jester:

Being a newbie at this- I didn't realize there was a ceiling fan! Ohhhhhhhh- the possibilities!!!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Maybe now my, as of yet, not revealed idea about bicycle reflectors storing solar power will work! :teeth:

Just back from a 2-bedroom at Old Key West -- #5512 -- and the thermostat worked beautifully. We would turn it down at night and it stayed nice and cold. We would make it a little less chilly during the day so we didn't freeze after swimming. Whatever the problem is at other properties was NOT a problem in this room. The thermostat was the normal kind where you set the temp and it also shows you the current temp in the room.
