Has anyone tried shipping packages USPS?

I've read several threads about the delivery fees often charged when shipping packages to DVC resorts that are attached to convention/business centers (e.g. BCV, BWV, BLT).

I'm resurrecting this question because I'm thinking of shipping to BCV and found this thread (see in post #9) saying that shipping USPS avoids the convention center delivery fees:

Has anyone shipped via USPS to a resort with a convention/business center and been able to avoid the additional fees?

TIA!

I see where it says that in what you quoted, but that strikes me as odd. I don't get why it would be any different - wouldn't the resort just take large packages that might come by USPS and give them to the convention people as well? But I guess I would defer to the people who write the FAQ for YC/BC. I'd probably just ship FedEx and pay the $10 service charge because I am more comfortable with FedEx or UPS reliability vs. USPS.

Yes, it did strike me as odd initially, but then I figured it may be possible that the resorts have different receiving areas for the US postal service vs. package delivery companies. I will probably use UPS, but I will still follow-up with the YC/BC FAQ OP out of curiosty.

Thanks for your response!

USPS is processed at a facility at WDW and sorted by type and destination, then delivered by Disney employees. UPS and FedEx is delivered directly to the destination by UPS and FedEx.

US Mail takes longer to be delivered due to the extra steps involved.

Ah! Now it makes sense. Disney, alone, handles all USPS mail, but a 3rd party company handles the convention/business center receiving departments (thus the additional fees). Thanks for your response!

We have had small packages arrive via USPS and they are kept behind the front desk or if they arrive once you check in they are delivered to your room.

I shipped Halloween costumes down (bulky ones, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum). I used Priority Mail USPS. It was waiting for me at check in.

Agree with Bill. It's also MUCH harder for Disney to ever track down a rogue package sent via USPS. It's many times easier for a package to be misdirected or outright lost between the postal service, Disney's handling center and the resort itself.

And who knows for certain if you would really avoid the handling charges.

Thanks for all the input. I will be shipping UPS to make life easier!

Does anyone happen to know the hours for the YC/BC Convention Center? (receiving department, I guess?)

i.e. What are the hours during which I'm able to pick up my packages at the Convention Center?

TIA!!

I was there in March 2011. The conference center office (where you pick up packages) is open 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The guy working there told me that if you arrive later than that and you have a package waiting, too bad. You’re out of luck until they open again. (He didn't phrase it like that, but that's the gist of it.)

Thanks for the info!! I figured that I would be out of luck if we didn't get there in time on arrival day, but we should be in good shape. The hours are better than I expected.

Thanks again!
