We'll be staying at AKL in a couple of days. Just wondering about Mara counter service food. Has anyone tried the African stew? If so what is it and is it good?
We loved the menu at Mara, including the stew. The menu board was a little confusing for me - so I finally just started asking the cm's what was good each night I ate there and YUMMY! roasted chicken and cous cous with roasted veggies! One night in particular after a long day of park hopping and pizza at the Studios didn't look good at all to me, I went on down to Mara and ate a great late night supper using my CS credits. I was told the food was taken from the buffet of Boma and so - no crowd, sitting in Mara watching classic Mickey Mouse cartoons, I had my dinner and zebra domes. My dh sat at the table with me - full of his less than spectacular pizza, in wonderment that these two meals cost the same credit...wished he had waited.
We ate there for lunch one time when we were checking out the AKL. It wasnt good at all, greasy limp fries and super greasy and mushy fried shrimp. We are staying at the AKL in Oct so we are going to give Mara another try
We ate there several times (usually for lunch) on our trip in March 2008. It had some nice variety (not just hamburgers and chicken strips, although those are available too) and the food was generally pretty good. It is a very convenient place for lunch if you are just hanging out by the AKL pool.
It was our favorite counter service restaurant during our December vacation. I would try to stick to the African specialties and avoid the burgers and chicken fingers that you can get everywhere else. Make sure to get a container of zebra domes out of the fridge for your dessert!
I am still craving the falafel pita! WE LOVE MARA!!! My Step daughter (11) ate couscous nd falafel for the first time and loved it. we were there a week and went 3 times.
