I've been lucky enough to be able to just highlight my hair for many years. However, the grey monster is finding me more and more. So it is time to color my hair as well.

While I'd love to go to my stylist, finances don't allow it right now. I took a look today and found the L'Oreal Couleur expert kit that also allows you to highlight your hair as well as color it. What a great concept! Does it work that well in theory though? My biggest concern is that the highlights go on with a little wand, and I could completely see me not getting them even, not doing enough, etc. I'm used to using a cap that is pretty much idiot-proof!LOL

Has anyone used this kit and, if so, what did you think of it? Any tips?

Thanks.

I think one of the concerns for you is when you apply that all over color to your highlighted hair, what's the highlighted hair going to look like? Since it is prelightened, it will grab the product different than natural hair. Something to think about before you apply.

I really like this product and find it a good alternative to salon prices. It is a 2 step process. First the all-over color to cover gray. Then after that is completed, the hair is highlighted. The only thing I don't care for is the brush they give you to apply highlights...it doesn't give you precise control like they show in the photos. But it all comes out great in the end anyway. If you don't care for it, you can just do something else in a few weeks, but I think it is definintely worth trying. Good Luck! :)

I've used it. It's really easy, and it comes out very natural looking. The highlights only go about two shades lighter than the haircolor you choose, so if you make a mistake with the wand, it's not an obvious one. It definitely looks much nicer than the regular one-tone type of haircolor!

I've used the kit mostly for the highlighting. The maintenance is the trick. I liked how it looked the first time using the entire kit. I didn't like the double processing every time. Too damaging. Instead I use Clairol's root touch up in a few shades lighter color. It helps to blend the new growth in with the previous highlights. Then when I highlight, (still using the kit just not the all over color) I try not to over do it.

Highlighting is tricky. I've finally gotten it down to a science. I like my hair. It looks natural. And I'm saving a ton of money. :)
