I saw this commercial with Brooke Shields (what's with her, she is hawking everything these days?) Anyway, it's an FDA approved product that you brush on your lash line and is for short, sparse eyelashes. It's supposed to make them grow thicker, longer and darker. It is a prescription med, so I am thinking that lends a little creedence to it. :confused3 I was wondering if anyone has tried it? What type of doctor prescribed it for you? How much did it cost? ( I have seen around $120 for a two month supply that can last for 4 months.) Did you insurance cover it? Did it work?

I have had blonde, sparse, short lashes all my life. For once in my life, I would love to have longer thicker lashes. :goodvibes

I use it and yes - it works! It is supposed to take up to 4 months to achieve maximum results, but I've been using it for 6 weeks and already see a big difference. Even my DH and kids noticed.

I got it from my plastic surgeon and it was $120.00 for a 2 month supply. Unfortunately, it is not covered by insurance. Also, you have to keep using it or your lashes will gradually revert to the way they were. But, I am thinking that once I reach the maintenance stage, I could possibly get away with using it less often. :confused3 Also, now that my lashes aren't so skimpy, I use less mascara and often skip the primer which saves money.

So you bought it directly from your Dr.? I was wondering if my Internist could write a prescription for me to get it from a drug store..I'm sure they would have to order it.

I'm glad it worked for you! Thanks for responding.:goodvibes

I'd be afraid of getting a "hairy eyeball." :scared1: ;)

Glad it's working for you. :)

As for Brooke Shields hawking everything under the sun, I think everyone lost money after the AIG/bank disasters. Anyone who had major investments in the stock market, probably saw their children's college funds go "poof". I imagine the stars who invested more and were possibly more aggressive with trading & investing, lost more. Even Warren Buffett said he lost money.

Kyra Sedgewick, (with hubby, Kevin Bacon,) both lost massive money in the Bernie Madoff scam, is now dancing in an orange juice commercial.

I would REALLY research this medication!!!! There are permanent side effects!

I was very interested in this until I saw the warning about the browning of the iris as a possible side effect. There is no way I'm losing the best physical feature I've got for fuller lashes. I'll just keep using gobs of mascara!

Eyelid skin darkening (which may be reversible) and brown iris pigmentation (I'm guessing your light colored eyes can darken to brown?) are the ones mentioned..

Oh yes, I did see that. Is that a permanent side effect, or will it go away if you stop using it?

Kim R, did it affect your eye color or eyelids? I am still fascinated by this, but for now I am still just thinking.

Well, my natural eye color is dark brown, so it shouldn't have an effect one way or the other. As for my eyelids, I haven't noticed anything so far.

Yes the side effects can be permanent.

I would not use a prescription drug originally meant for an actual disease now marketed for vanity so the companies can make more money. Not when there are safe options like false lashes and mascara readily available.

Amen to that! Since this hasn't been on the market long enough to REALLY know what the long-term effects are (thanks, but I wouldn't want to be a drug company guinea pig!!!) you are risking alot.

Permanently changing your eye color? What else MAY happen????

Permanently changing your eye color sounds like something great if you are in the Witness Protection program and need a full change of identity. :cool2:
