Has anyone tried Disney's Mobile Magic app for Disneyland? Is it worth subscribing?

Hi there,

We are visiting Disneyland soon and are interested in finding out more information on Disney's Mobile Magic phone app. We have Droid cell phones (Verizon) - does the app work with these phones do you know? Also, do you think the app is helpful and worth purchasing?

Thanks so much! :)
Allison

We just got back yesterday from six days in Disneyland. Before we left, I subscribed to the Mobile Magic App for my husband's Verizon Droid.

Totally useless in our opinion. The e-mail sent to us by Disneyland describing the app said we would be sent helpful texts about our hotel and special offers during our stay. Never did receive those.

It says you can text WAIT and the ride name for waiting times. We did that a couple of times. The text answer back was "HIGH DEMAND WAIT TIME" or "SEE NOW WAIT TIME." So not very specific.

When I signed up for the Mobile Magic App, I had to put in the dates for our trip and the reservation number for our package at the Paradise Pier. So Disneyland knew our dates in the park. But on the third day when my husband texted for a ride wait time, the app said we were no longer in the park so ineligible for the text help. The next day, my husband got a text from the app saying "Have fun at Disneyland today." We stopped even trying using it then.

The board with wait times by the Plaza Pavilion gave us more helpful information.

mousewait is a free app and is available now for the droid phones, it's a favorite among many dis'ers.

for Android phones the following free apps are available at the Market...
1) Disneyland Wait Times
2)MouseWait
3)ParkTasktiq
4)RideHopper

I used the Mobile Magic on a nondroid Verizon phone. I thought it was a nice feature. It had ride wait times and other information. My dd mostly used it while waiting for parades and played the trivia game on it.

The App isn't available for the Droid yet. You can text Magic to 2777 to see if your phone supports it. I have a 1st gen droid, and it isn't supported.

you can go to m.disneyland.com to view general information. You'll be able to see general wait times (See Now, Moderate, etc) and if fast passes are still available.

I used Disney World Lines which also has DL on it (touringplans.com app), ParkTasktiq, Disneyland Wait Times, and Ride Hopper Lite for the free apps on my Samsung Galaxy. I mostly used the Disney World Lines since it has both DL and WDW wait times on it.

I have the dorid and will have to try some of the free apps on our next trip in July. Thanks for all of this great advice!!!

My daughters boyfriend bought an ap for his iPhone - didn't have accurate information at all. We stood outside of Splash mountain - 45 minute wait and his ap was showing 20. Sometimes he would lose the network when he was in the park for up to an hour. Realy not worth it in our opinion, but then again, it may have been the ap he purchased. Perhaps there was a better one.

Like a lot of other things, it is just a tool to try and help your Disney experience.
I have spent the last 55 years going to the park without any help other than my common sense and understanding of the crowds, parades, and shows. When was a good time to go on that particular ride and when wasn't.
Get there early, just take it easy in the middle of the day and then hit it again in the evening after the parade and fireworks.
All of these apps are only as good as the information entered by other folks in the park that day. Obviously the more good information that is entered then the better the results.
I have 4 different apps on my Android and at any given point, the times may or may not coincide for a particular ride.
I personally would not spend any more money on one of these apps, since the free ones seem to work just about as well as the ones that come with a price.
One of these days maybe Disney will have a direct feed to the apps that gives actual wait times that are posted at each ride, and the fastpass return times...I know the Verizon version is supposed to be close to that but not quite there yet;)

Thank you SO much everyone! This is such helpful information. My husband is working on adding the free phone apps you suggested right now! :)

Thanks again
