Hi all
Hope you are all well, My question today is about the hotels we are staying at, firstly the clarion universal just of i-drive and then the sheraton sandkey in clearwater.

1) has anyone stayed at these hotels what are they like?

2) is the clarion very near i-drive or a bit of a walk?

3) do either hotels have fridges in them? if not can we hire them?

HI,

I Stayed at the Clarion Universal for 2 nights when it was the Floridian. I think its the same hotel. Maybe someone else can verify this.

Anyway, its down the side of Wet and Wild. 2 Minute walk to I-Drive. 5 minute walk to sizzler and Ponderosa restaurants. 5 Minute drive to Universal and Belz Outlets. Quite a good location.

The hotel is vey nice, quite a tall structre, we did not have a balcony and the rooms were like any standard American hotel room. I would imagine Clarion have refurbished it when they took it over.

Because i only stayed for i couple of nights, i can't really add much more to the above only that the rooms did not have fridges.

Maybe you could check out Clarions website for further info.

we stayed at the Clarion Universal last year for a week. It's a very standard US hotel. The first room we had was a smoking room and not very nice, but we complained and were moved to a different room which was lovely and actually bigger and nicer than our room at CBR the following week. You get a safe, coffee maker with free coffee, real mugs, and there's some kind of Nintendo on the tv which we didn't use.

There is a restaurant downstairs, which turns into a bar later on, and also a deli which does takeaway sandwiches etc.
One bonus was, that the one morning we decided to eat breakfast in the restaurant, Shamu made an appearance - I don't know how often that happens.

It's just behind wet n wild and if you are at the front the view of the lake at wet n wild is really pretty.

It's not far from I-drive, but we didn't walk it, although I suppose you could - I think it would be longer than 5 minutes though. Even so, it's a very handy location, extremely close to Universal and Wet N Wild, and handy for loads of restaurants and shops. Also, you can get out without going down I-drive which is a bonus because that seemed to be quite clogged with traffic when we were there, so we just went down our road (Universal Blvd), and then either along Sand Lake Rd, or all the way down to Pointe Orlando where it meets I-drive and missed most of the traffic jams.

I'm not sure about hiring a fridge- there isn't one in the room, we just used a cooler and ice from the ice machine.

I would certainly have no problem going back to the Clarion. It's exactly what I expect from a hotel, no more, no less.
