Ok so that is the most last minute big trip I have ever done. just booked flights for end of june. Oahu and Maui. Aulani is booked up as is Marriott Ko Olina
Still deciding how much we will spend on resort so have a little bit of a range of hotels
anyone stay at any of these?
Prince Waikiki
Ritz carlton residencies
Trump waikiki
turtle bay resort
royal hawaiian
moana surfrider or sheraton

I can't offer any assistance with your hotel list for O'ahu, but can suggest if you plan to visit both O'ahu and Maui, do O'ahu first. We did it the other way this year...five weeks on Maui and four weeks at Aulani...and found O'ahu a big letdown after visiting Maui.

While on O'ahu we drove to Honolulu twice, for dining and shopping, and decided if we ever go to Aulani again, we wouldn't go into Honolulu. Aulani and the surrounding area is so beautiful and peaceful...Honolulu no longer offers anything we need to see or do.

thanks. yes we are doing Oahu first. Any recs for where to stay inMaui? You were in hawaii for 2 months?! wow!! we are doing 5 nights oahu then 4 nights Maui

We stayed at Aston At The Whaler on Kaanapali Beach. We enjoyed our stay there so much we have booked the same unit for 2023!!

It's located next to Whalers Village with stores and restaurants such as Monkeypod, Hula Grill, Leilani's on the Beach, and others...excellent for dine-in or takeout.

There are plenty of excellent hotels along this beautiful beach to choose from...

We stayed at The Royal Hawaiian, Turtle Bay, and Aulani on our trip in January.
The Sheraton is right next door to the Royal Hawaiian, and are both under the same hotel corp. now so we did spend a little time there.
What would you like to know? I'd be happy to help if you have specifics. :)

looking for clean, comfy with good dining options... am actually leaning towards Prince as good deal right now... so now I need to focus on finding a place in Maui!

The Sheraton is the winner, hands down. It’s located in the middle of Waikiki, on the beach (sorta, but close enough), and the rooms are more modern/larger than the Royal Hawaiian and Moana Surfrider. Just check that the renovations will be don’t by the time you check in.

The Prince is not that close to the beach and it’s a bit of a walk from the main drag.

If you’re looking for an upscale resort that’s close to attractions, look into the Kahala Resort as well.

We’ve stopped at Trump around 11-13 times - we love it. We prefer the location - close enough to everything but not actually on the main drag. A quick walk across the road to our favourite stretch of the beach out front of Hale Koa.

We have 3 kids so always choose a 2 bedroom suite which affords us plenty of space to stretch out. We’ve stayed so many times we have gotten to know the staff well and love bringing them Australian snacks as presents.

I really wanted to stay there but its a little more than the Prince and since Maui is going to be INSANE i want to save on oahu. although there is the room credit we can get..

thanks.. will check. ended up grabbing a deal on prince but will double check sheraton price.

Turtle Bay is amazing but it's WAY up in the middle of nowhere. IMO it's a 2-3 night pit stop, not a hub for an entire trip.

Agreed. It's probably my favorite hotel of the ones mentioned, and near my favorite beach on Oahu, but you must have a car up there and it's a decent drive to other major tourist spots.

I have stayed at the Royal Hawaiian and the Moana Surfrider. The Royal Hawaiian is wonderful and the Moana is historic. I would stay at either one of them again with an edge to the Royal.

Lots of condos in the Kihei area of Maui that look pretty reasonable. I’m a hotel gal but I have several friends who only use condos. We’re staying two nights at one in Hana (Hana Kai) but it’s not cheap either and not a good hub if you want to see other parts of the island.

We thought Turtle Bay was FABULOUS! Post-renovation it is just stunning! It is so so beautiful, located on a picture perfect property. The rooms are a very nice size and the food was excellent. The pools were family friendly as was the beach. It is "in the country" as we heard many locals refer to it, but if you want to spend time at the North Shore, it is a perfect location with short drives. It is indeed super expensive. A truly laid back experience. I would return in a heartbeat.

We loved The Royal Hawaiian! We loved the blend of old and new, and thought it was nothing but class without being uppity. Perfectly located on Waikiki Beach, you are in the perfect area for exploring Waikiki and a short drive away to many of the island sight seeing locations. The food was good, and of course, expensive as well, but there is a PLETHORA of dining options literally steps away. Tons of restaurants, counter service, coffee, etc. Everything we tried was great. The Royal Hawaiian was not as expensive as many other hotels we looked at. We used Bonvoy points.

It seems like everyone loves the Sheraton next door. It is happening (lol) and has a lot of family friendly ammenities. Maybe our experience was different, but when we walked over there, it was CRAZY crowded with kids and families everywhere. It was a weekend so very busy. There is nothing wrong with kids and families, lol. They are just concentrated into a smaller area (not as spread out as Aulani). There were a lot of unsupervised kids and it didn't make for a pleasant experience. Also, (again, just our experience) by early evening, the pools were slick with sunscreen, lots of gross stuff floating in the pool (hair, band-aids, food) and garbage and LOTS of towels left all around the pool deck. I personally would not choose to stay there in the future, but there must be a reason why it's loved so much.

We ended our trip at Aulani and thought it was the perfect resort location and blend of fun and relaxation. We loved all locations (Waikiki, Turtle Bay and Ko 'Olina) equally for different reasons.

If you are not looking at a beach resort in Waikiki but want a clean, good location, check out Coconut Waikiki Hotel. We considered this option when we first planned our trip. We would consider staying there in the future.

Kyton - do all of the suites have balconies? Do you know about which rooms do? I would like to make sure to have balcony. nevermind. it looks like description notes balcony for all room types. Just wasnt sure based on pics. trying to decide if its worth the extra price to switch hotels

Yes they do as far as I’m aware - at least every suite we’ve stopped in since 2011 has.

We’re currently booked at the Prince Waikiki before moving to Aulani… I couldn’t beat the price but really want a balcony, which they don’t have. I booked a second room for my brother and was impressed that they called right away to verify I meant to make two room reservations.
