We stayed at the Sheraton Safari last November. We had one of their Junior Suites (I believe that's what it's called). There was a bedroom with two double beds and a livingroom/sitting area with sink, coffee maker, micro, etc...separated by the sink area and bathroom. I went with my parents and bf, we're 23 and 29, so I don't have a child's perspective on the hotel, but for us it was perfectly fine!!
We're used to staying on property and this was our first time off, and it worked out quite well. The room was clean, there was a large pool with a giant python waterslide that seemed very popular with children, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. We didn't arrive until around midnight and they were just as cheerful as during the day...
As far as restaurants go, there were tons around. Every morning we stopped at the Dunkin Donuts right across the street to grab a bagel, there was also a Sizzler and a Waffle House on the same road. For dinner, there were pizza places, an Olive Garden, Chinese restaurants, etc. There was also a 24 hour grocery store less than 2 minutes down the road. Also, it was probably only a 5 minute drive to Downtown Disney, so we ate there a few times...
All in all we had a great experience at this hotel and would recommend it. It's nothing fancy, but definitely served us well (but then again, when we do Disney, we're hardly ever in our rooms anyway!!)
Hope this helped
