It's definitely a Deluxe! Besides the fact that it used to be owned by Disney and operated as a Deluxe, it still has Deluxe amenities--valet parking, on-site table service restaurants, bell services, room service, suites, lounge, sports bar, extensive landscaping, multiple pools, hot tub, fitness room, etc....
Also, the rooms here are very large...some of the largest on property. You can't get this much space at a value or moderate. Some rooms have gorgeous view of the Magnolia and Palm golf courses...perfect since it was once themed as the "Golf Resort."
I've stayed there several times, and can't wait for them to reopen so I can see what all they've done! The SOG employees have always been fabulous....we often think they must be sent to Disney's CM school because they are just as accomodating and happy to help!
We've always found SOG to be rather convenient. They had fewer buses than regular resorts...withonly 288 rooms they didn't need as many, but you knew when they were running. Now that they've expanded, I assume the number of buses will, too. Also, if we ever missed a bus or didn't want to wait, we just walked to the Poly and caught the monorail or their bus!
Theming...well, it's not owned by Disney, so it isn't themed Disney. But it is a very nice place to stay!
They don't have concierge service like Disney Deluxe if that's important to you. They also don't have character breakfasts, but neither do AKL or WL...
