It looks like it would be really easy, but the fees appear to be on the high side to me. Are they? I recently bought three books for a paper my DS was doing for his Film as History class -- he didn't choose a topic that would have the books at the library. I don't have any interest in keeping those books or the movie and amazon looked like it might be a good way to get rid of them.

I'll admit I'm intimdated by ebay. We've not sold anything, although my dh has bought a few things, so we've got good feedback.

You have to jump thru a few more hoops to sell on Amazon than on ebay - you have to ship the item within 48 hours of receiving payment. The books do tend to sell for higher amounts on Amazon then on ebay though so I think the higher fees are generally worth it. Research your specific books on both sites and see if you can find out which is the better option.

Good luck!

I agree with ClarabelleCowFan, the fees are higher but you seem to get a better class of buyer on Amazon. A few good features are that the listings are good for three months, you get a e-mail to renew the listing (and that is when I review my price and adjust accordingly). I have had very little success selling books on ebay, just about have to give them away. Also, watch the amazon shipping allotment, sometimes I have to add a few $$$ to my asking price, if I feel amazon has under weighed the item.
Oh, one more thing to remember, most major novels are a "dime a dozen" sometimes I look at amazon and there are 100's of copies selling for pennies...... these books I put aside and either donate them or save them for our annual garage sale.
One final note, I have bought specific books on ebay and been able to flip them on amazon at a sizable profit.

yes, the fees run around 15%. Amazon collects all the money for you and also allows some money for shipping. The nice thing about it is the listing itself is free, if the book doesn't sell then you don't pay. Also, there is no time limit on waiting for a buyer. The listing will stay active and if it still doesn't sell you can just relist it.

If I have a hardcover book or a really recent bestselling novel I will sell it there. I also usually sell the kid's used textbooks on Amazon.

Paperback books and most of the kid's stuff, I group them into lots of 5 or 10 and sell them on EBAY. There isn't a way to group into a lot on Amazon. Some people on Amazon list them for a penny and then try to go cheap on the shipping supplies to make money there.

Thanks, folks -- I think I'm going to try it. These three books are all nonficton books about The Doors. When I bought them, there were several copies available of each. I either went with the lowest price or close to lowest price and located near us. My son had delayed too long doing his paper and needed them immediately -- he did get an "A" though!
