Someone suggested I ship my luggage, since the airline charges anyway. Has anyone done this? How far in advance do you ship? Is is worth it?
Thanks for the input:)

I shipped a box with clothes and snacks a couple of years ago and just shipped again last week. It worked very well last time and I will know how well it worked this time next week. Ship it UPS or FedEx. These two will deliver directly to the resorts - USPS does not. I shipped UPS and I went on the website and there is a cost/time calculator so I knew when I needed to ship depending on how much I wanted to spend. I send it regular ground and it takes about a week (although with the holidays and weekends I had plan extra days this time). My box weighed around 32 pounds and it cost me $16.82 to ship. The airlines charge $15 and I have to sit around and wait for my luggage to arrive (and hope it does). So yes, I think it's worth it.

I pack extra packing tape and a label that I have written up with my home address so that I can pack up the box for returning at the end of the trip. I also pack a black magic marker in a little ziplock to cross out any markings that may be on the box.

Hope this helps.

You might want to check the thread about shipping on the Resorts board. It appears that Disney is now charging a fee to accept shipped packages.

Thanks so much for all the info. It was exactly what I needed. I think we are going to try this.
Thanks for the heads up on the handling charges at the resort, too. I do not mind paying any additional fees. We would be doing this for our convenience and I would expect to pay for a convenience.

I ordered some clothes from Hanna Andersson for our trip (the day we left - I realized they needed some as not much fit DD anymore!) and had it shipped overnight to the Boardwalk Inn on Dec 18th.

I wasn't charged anything, and it ended up getting delivered directly to our room while we were out that day.

I do know the Swan and Dolphin state that they reserve the right to charge for packages being delivered, but I have shipped boxes there many times and never been charged. I think it's for folks sending convention materials - if there is a lot, they may charge for the hassle of dealing with lots of boxes.

I ship home all the time from the UPS store near PUblix outside the gates. The man that owns it is wonderful and I am seriously thinking the next time I come of just shipping him my suitcase and picking it up when I get there or having it delivered to my resort......works for me.. I took his card and we discussed it, he said people do it all the time.

Since 2001, I have shipped our luggage (not the actual piece of luggae!!) everywhere we travel -- NYC, Siesta Key, Disney, etc. I will not stand in airport lines, file lost luggage reports (waited over an hour at MCO the last time I flew with luggage) or just wait in general. Once they started charging for luggage, I def. wasn't traveling with my luggage because it's not like their service improved. At least with UPS, I'm still paying but the service is incredible. I do not like running around finding the carousel where my luggage is suppose to arrive, waiting for it to be thrown onto the carousel (mine always seems to be the last off the plane) or worry about it and stand in another line when it's been "lost" or placed on the flight after mine. The excuses the airlines use are long! So I ship! The cost is relative to my vacation time. UPS has never falied me yet and I just called the hotels ahead of time, told them I'd have boxes arriving, they put it in the luggage room and I just tip well. I walk off a planr, into a cab, rental car, etc and arrive at my hotel and sit at the pool/beach as others are running around getting their luggage.

When I was in NYC and shopping, instead of carrying the purchases from downtown to uptown, I just found a shipping place in SoHo and immediately shopped my purchases home. I was with friends who had also been shopping and we just all split the cost and had it delivered to one of our homes. We could then continue sightseeing, shopping. eating without lugging the purchases.

I only travel with carry on and refuse to check any luggage -- the system is awful and though I know most of it is all the updated and necessary security, I just won't monopolize my vacation with all this little stressful stuff. Originally the bagged fee was due to the outrageous gas prices -- well gas is now 1/2 the cost it was and the airlines haven't taken away the baggage fee and the baggage service hasn't improved.

That's what we are going to do but we still have to get the stuff down there in the first place! I keep going around and around about how to do that.

Where do I find the actual shipping addresses for the resorts? For example we'll be staying at the Beach Club Villas. What do I write on the box to assure I get it at my resort?

Disney Beach Club
Disney Vacation Club Resort
Address - 1900 EPCOT Resorts Boulevard
Lake Buena Vista, 32830

Phone - (407) 934-2175

Fax - (407) 934-3850

Put the address on the box and include your name and when you will be arriving. Call the resort and let them know it is coming.

I had a Christmas tree and another box full of holiday decorations shipped to the Poly when we went over Christmas. I haven't read the thread about the resort charging you to accept the packages, but I can tell you that we were not charged anything. Maybe we were just lucky. :confused3

I ship whatever I cant carry in my carry on - every single year - twice a year - for yearssssssss.

You do not need to call your resort, however what another poster mentioned is correct. Only UPS (possibly FedEx - dunno, dont use them) ships directly to the resort.

What do I write on the box to assure I get it at my resort?

ON UPS LABEL:

Your Name
c/o Your Resort
Resort Address
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830

ON ANOTHER PORTION OF THE BOX:

Please hold for:
Your Family Name
Checking in: (your check in date)
Confirmation #: (your confirmation #)

It's only $5 per package. Still, well worth it, IMO.

I shipped via USPS...didn't have a problem. It could be there was one, but it wasn't made apparent to us. I used Priority (3 day) shipping and it was at the resort in the three days. I also just put stickers on every side of our packages that said, "Please hold until 12/17 for reservation #123456789". I didn't call the resort to tell them the packages were coming.

Oh, when we checked out, we went to the concierge desk and they gave me the option of shipping home using FedEx or UPS, so I would think both of those service the resorts directly.
