looking for input on this program.
Cam is determined to be an Astronaut ( all he's ever wanted to be ) and this year he qualifies for Space Camp.

Has anyone gone? what did you think?

The kids in the sage program here (gifted/talented) go to Astro-camp every year. Not sure if it's exactly the same thing, but probably similar.
My DD absolutely LOVED it. I didn't let her go as a 5th grader as I thought it would be more special to have her wait and go in 6th grade. I didn't think she needed to go more than once. I wish now I had let her go both years.
They did do a lot of team building activites which may not be quite the same if you are not attending as a group. All the kids I've talked to about it said it was a great experience. Our sage teacher is very picky about the programs the kids participate in - he would not take them back year after year if it was not a worthwhile experience.

My DS won a trip to Space Camp back in 1990..I won it off the back of a Kelloggs Cereal Box..(Yes people do win those things). It was in Titusville, FLA. We had to pay for his transport there, but other than it was all free for him.

He had a blast, loved every minute of it, it is a great experience. He still talks about it to this day, and three months after he went to the camp, we drove over from Orlando to see the place while we were on vacation. Back them it was a great place and the kids love it..send him if you can..he will never forget it.....:sunny:

We had considered sending DS in the past but he was 13 and the information said they did not want parents to keep in touch during the week much. That made us nervous. He probably missed out on a great opportunity because we could not get a handle on our fears. Since then, he has been too busy in the summer with 4H and community service. Now he has a driver's license so a whole new world has opened up to him. I should check and see if he is too old to go now.....

Please let us know what you decide to do! Thanks!!

My son & Husband did the parent/child weekend last summer. They had a great time. I think it was for ages 8 to 10, not sure. My 6 yr old & I stayed in the nice onsite hotel & explored the mueseum during the day. It was lots of fun for all of us. This was in Huntsville.

Two young boys in my family have attended. The boys had an outstanding time and their parents were very pleased with all they participated in and learned. Come to think of it, I've never heard anything negative about the camp.

DD went for 3 years. Last year they actually got to go to Johnson Space Center in Houston. On the last night that they were there they had dinner with some astronauts and others in the space field. They had at least one adult sitting at each table so that the kids could talk to them and get a feel for what they do. One of the speakers at the dinner worked on the International Space Station and she said he was very interesting. She was 12 when she first went. The program she went to last summer was for freshmen thru seniors.

Yes my DD went to the one in Huntsville when she was in the 6th grade. She loved it.

I've also known a few people who attended Space Camp in Huntsville and all of them loved it!

My Dad promised to send me into outer space when I was about 12... But he never did..........:p

Thanks for posting this. Both my DS would love to go - my 9 yr old brings it up all the time. I am considering it but DH is worried about who will be watching over them. I am hoping that once my oldest gets back from BSA camp on Sat, DH will see that it is harder on us to send them away.
