Just wondering -- those of you have been to HH lately -- have you seen Shadow?

When we were there in April he was not at the past two Shadow meet and greets on Thursday, Shadow's normal appearance day. I noticed on the activities for the upcoming week that Shadow's Tales was worded differently and did not say Shadow would actually be there. Has anyone seen Shadow lately?

We saw him when we checked in 2 Sunday's ago, but didn't see him again for the rest of the week. paw:

Interesting thread. When we were there in April , we didn't get to see him either. We were wondering if he was OK??? We have seen him before (in August of last year) when we went, so we knew he exists. But, if he is the original still, then he has to be getting pretty old. Does anyone know anything else?

My sister and nephew were with us and were hoping to see him b/k they have a Golden Retriever and I told them Shadow looks just like theirs. (which they all pretty much look alike anyway, but they were hoping to see him).

When you ask B'lou where Shadow is, he will give you an honest but Disney answer. "She is at home resting or not feeling well." What I mean about Disney answer, is I saw someone keep asking him exactly what is wrong, wanting details, and he just said the Vets are looking after her, and very professionaly changed the subject and focused on her kids with ballon animals.

It was clear he was not going to share the medical needs of Shadow infront of children.

DH, on his way to check in this past late March, saw Shadow at her dog house looking very content & satisfied with all the attention :sunny: -

Later that week, at the Meet & Greet, we did notice her rear legs were just barely visably shaky, like older dogs are prone to get. Shadow was eager, tail wagging & bright at the Meet & Greet.

B'lou Crabbe told us she was 12 years old., which for a Golden R., or any dog, is an respectable age.

Later our family decided that when the happy, loving Shadow goes over the Rainbow Bridge, Disney probably has planned for this by having another Golden step up to take over her (his?) duties~Shadow is really interwoven into the resort's 'legends' & into everyone's hearts~

Does anyone out there know for sure if anything's happened to Shadow?

For those of you who saw Shadow in May, hold old did he/she look? :dog:

Shadow used to be fairly old. Like a previous poster stated, Shadow is at least 12 years old and was part of the Hilton Head resort when it opened in the mid 1990's. I wonder if Shadow didn't go to the great kennel in the sky?! :confused3

If the current Shadow looks fairly young, I suspect it would be Shadow 2. :thumbsup2 pluto:

Shadow seemed fully grown -- not a puppy. Couldn't say anything about age beyond that, though, sorry.

Shadow the story, myth, legend has been part of the resort from the start.
I don't think Shadow, the friend that B'lou Crabbe brings with him did not come around until B'lou came to the resort with his programs. The resort opened in 1996, I stayed each year on cash from 96 until 99. (they always offered a $99 per night deal then.) I joined in 1999. I don't remember B'lou and an actual Shadow you could touch until around 2001 or 2002. My memory is bad though. Maybe someone who keeps up with the HHI resort might have a better memory on when we started "seeing" Shadow.

We also saw Shadow at the end of May. We saw the golden following commands in the back parking lot close to the marsh. We own a 8 yr old golden, who looked older than the one we saw. This dog was all bouncy and full of energy but also very well trained. Was it a new shadow, I do not know. B'Lou was sitting in a golf type cart talking to someone. Another woman was handling the training. Beautiful dog.

We were there last week and didn't see Shadow. Last year she was in her doghouse when we checked in on a Sunday.

Your memory seems fairly accurate to me. I've gone several times per year since 1997, and there was no 'real' Shadow until after 2000 or later, that I can remember.

If we see Shadow on Feb 2, does that mean we will have 6 more weeks of winter :confused3 :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I know we asked about Shadow when we were there last summer and the CM handling Shadow said that she is pretty old, around 12 or 13. We were also told that she has to rest quite a bit.

This is what B'lou Crabbe told us this past March, age 12 & needs to rest quite a bit.
Could it be there are already multiple Shadows? Just a thought-

Looking through my pictures, Shadow has alot white around her face.
Also she is a girl dog. She has always been with B'lou.

So, if the next person can check to see if Shadow is still a girl, and or has lost the white fur around the face. This is how to tell if there is only one Shadow or not.

I will be there in Sept. so I can give an update then. It is not hot and crowded so Shadow will likely be out during that time.

We own a golden too. They are great dogs.

I think Vacation Magic magazine, or one of the newsletters, had a story a few years ago about Shadow. Maybe they could publish it again? :dogdance: :dog:

I do not remember seeing any white around the dog's face that we saw a couple weeks ago. The dog we saw did not look to be around 12, but much younger.

I saw a picture on the DVC picture thread just a few days ago of an adorable child with an adorable "Shadow" who looked (to my rather untrained eye) like a young dog.

I don't know anything about the Shadow legends - is there anywhere a person could read up on her?

Hopefully the older Shadow is just enjoying a nice peaceful retirement.
