Has anyone seen Pride and Prejudice?

If so, how was it? Also, if you saw the A&E version, how did it compare? I really want to see it, but I am worried that it will be a letdown, since I love the Colin Firth version so much...

::yes::
I am no expert, but DH is ;)
He has both other versions and read the book many times.
He enjoyed this one, but kept pointing out all the differences and "they didn't do that".
He expected there to be some differences and left out things because of making a shorter movie.
But, he did enjoy it on its own....and really liked the person that played Mr. Collins.

As a novice, I thought it was an interesting love story and enjoyed it also.

I haven't seen it yet, but I want to. I am a huge Pride and Prejudice fan. I loved the book, always look for old, hardcover copies of it. I really liked the version on A&E with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy, so I figure I probably won't like any other versions as much but I'll give it a chance. ;)

The story is the same (in essence) but the whole thing is pretty different. It does not follow the book 100% but it is so well acted and tons of chemistry (I am all about the chemistry) that it is really a great great movie.

I really loved both of them and was happy we had a new take on the story.

Im with #2 DH. I noticed lots they left out as the movie is shorter. It was very good in i's own right but needs a longer version to fit everything in. Mr Darcy was very good but no-one can top Colin Firth!!

It wasn't terrible, but it definitely pales incomparison to the BBC version. The actor playing Darcy was fine, but he was no Colin Firth!

Kiera Knightly did a pretty good job with Lizzie, but the story is very condensed, and it has a "Hollywood" ending that is completely out of context and could vex Austin purists.

Still, not a bad way to pass a couple of hours. Go in with the lowest expectations possible and be pleasantly surprised!

I saw the preview online a few months ago and from that I could tell how different it was going to be and I have no interest in seeing it. I also don't find the actor who plays Darcy attractive at all, so I don't think that helps, either.

The guy who plays Darcy was in a BBC series called MI-5 here -I think they call it "Spooks" over there. If you have netflix you can get the DVDs of it online- It is a good "spy show".
I too love Colin Firth and I can't decide if I should see it or not.

I love Pride and Prejudice but no one remembers the 1982 BBC version on Masterpiece Theater. It was so good! The actors played the characters extremely well. I recorded it and love to watch it. I liked the A & E version but think the BBC one was better. It will be interesting to see the new movie.

I did. I thought it was awful. It was more Bronte than Austen.

I'll stick to my A&E DVDS in the future. And someone needs to tell Kiera Knightley to a. gain some weight (seriously) b. stand up straight and c. comb her hair (or her awful wig in the movie, whatever).

Unless Colin Firth is suddenly jumping into a lake, wearing clingy white clothes, then it is not Pride & Prejudice. :)

AU.... most disagree.

Saw, and LOVED, the new version at the North American premier in Toronto at the Intl. Film Festival... SSB thought absorbing, and most fantastico.

But, Colin Firth was the whole reason I watched that movie!
