We saw it on Friday with our 8 year old. We saw nothing objectionable.
One shower scene (no worse than those Herbal Essence commercials). A few "What the hell are you doing?". Will Farrell guzzles booze from a flask and gets drunk. That's about it. It's really pretty clean.
My brother (late 20s) took my sons (8 & almost 10) to see Elf over the weekend. All of them liked it. DS8 asked later why in all of the movies about Santa, people don't believe in him. DS did say that by the end of the movie the people believed. (DS is desparately trying to hang onto his belief in Santa)
We saw it on Friday. It was really cute. A little slightly crude humor (belching, etc) but overall cute, cheesy, feel-good fun. I thought the "santa issue" was handled very well.
Thanks, everyone! I am really worried about the "Santa Issue" as I don't want ds to stop believing, just yet! I know 2nd grade is getting close to the "end", but I want to hang onto his belief just a bit longer, ya know?
I think we'll take him this weekend! I would still be interested in more reviews though, so keep them coming!
I am also trying to preserve Santa for my 2nd grade DS. I know this year will probably be the last. I want to see Elf. The previews were funny. However, I won't take DS if it means he will figure out the "Santa issue" just because I took him to a movie. Keep the reviews coming please.
DH & I saw it and liked it. It's not gonna be a new Christmas "classic" (I think Nat'l Lampoon's Christmas Vacation & A Christmas Story are new classics - The Santa Clause is not - jmho) But it was fun and worth a few laughs - def take the kids!
My second grade daughter went into this movie as a "Santa Claus doubter" as she called herself. She did not totally disbelieve but she was not completely buying it either. She left the movie with a renewed belief in Santa Claus. I thought the movie was adorable.
We enjoyed it as well. Probably moreso the second time around. Chris and I screened it Thursday night, and we finally got around to taking Devyn to see it yesterday.
I, too, was worried about the Santa issue (one of the reasons I wanted to see it first). Devyn wont fess up to me as to whether she still believes or not. There is one scene in the movie where they were explaining that "some people think the parents leave the presents, etc.", and the response was "there is no way parents could do all that in one night. I was a little worried that Dev would read alot into that but she did fine. She did say to me, "so that's where Alisha got that idea from that the parents did it". I blew by that response so I think that we're still good.
We went to see it over the weekend, DD8 and DS2, DH and myself. We all enjoyed it. My husband also said the same thing about it becoming a new Christmas classic. I think the older kids would like it too. We had two teenage girls sitting beside us and they seemed to enjoy it. They were laughing.
My 10 year old DS and DH saw it this weekend and I'm not sure which one of them was more enthusiastic about it afterward. They are both urging me to go see and I probably will this week or the next.
We just got back from seeing it and it was pretty good. I took my DS8 and DS3 with some of my friends and their kids (boys and girls 3-8) and all the kids enjoyed it. We mommas thought it was pretty funny too. Overall, it was very child appropiate and did maintain the Santa Claus thing. There is very little bad language and what is there is not strong or noticeable. Before we took the kids, we checked out the review from Focus on the Family.
