Has anyone seen a snake in the Parks/Water Parks

We just returned from CBR last week and saw a snake on the sidewalk outside our room. It was black and about 1 1/2 to maybe 2 feet long but not very big around. It slithered into the grass when we walked by and then just stayed there. I don't know what kind it was, but it wasn't a rattlesnake. I've never seen a snake at the parks, though.

I think your chances of seeing a snake are as good as anywhere else. Like at home, or in most any other tourist area. The place is not over run with them. But of course there is going to be the occasional one. I hate them so I can empathize with her. By the way I did HISTA, I knew what to expect and I was okay. I was alittle apprehensive, but still okay-- knowing what was going to happen ahead of time made me relax. As for being on the look out the entire trip, you will all be so absorbed in the magic you'll forget about it.

I saw one last July on the path to Winterland Summerland Mini Golf . It was about two feet long and it just sort of sayed in the path long enough for me to take a picture of it.

About a year ago my husband and I were floating on that lazy river type ride at Blizzard and we watched a snake slither into the water. They say they usually don't come into the water. OF course being a city girl and then suburb woman I don't see many snakes and freaked out. The lifeguard asked what color it was and when I said yellow and gray, they made us get out until they found it. Fastest I've moved in quite awhile. I too am petrified of snakes. They did find it immediately and got it out of the water. It took me about 5 minutes to go back in but I did keep my eyes open the rest of the day. I am not letting any stinkin snake ruin my Disney vacation!!!! Now I just got get over my fear of fast rides!! ; )

It is unavoidable that snakes will appear from time to time in the parks and at the resorts. There are 4 poisonous species (3 lethal) and dozens of non-poisonous species in Central Florida, and the Disney property is perfect habitat for them.

I am sure, however, that Disney relocates even the harmless ones quickly, and I have never seen one myself (and I'm always looking for wildlife).

We've seen 2 in 13 trips. Both very small. One at BB as a CM removed it and one at POR as it dashed across in front of us on the path. I really hate snakes, but they are generally in a hurry to get away from us scary humans!

With the unfortunate exception of the Cottonmouth Moccasin (or Water Moccasin) which is aggressive, quick to bite, and unlikely to back down from a confrontation. Luckily, they like the water and the undergrowth, and you are not likely to see one if you stick to the sidewalks and lawns.

Yes! A water snake swam right under me in the lazy river at Blizzard Beach. When it crawled out on the other side, a life guard picked it up with a scoop.

Thank you all for the information. Do you think we`d be safer not going to the waterparks? I`m sure I`d be taking a body home if she actually saw one, and if one decided to swim near her well I dread to think what would happen.

Anyone seen one in Animal Kingdom.

Thanks

With at least 25 trips under our belts we have only seen 1 snake. That was along the river at POR. Believe me I hate snakes. But the gardener scooped it up quickly. Its like polar bears here in Canada. They are here but I have never seen one.

O-K, so the pattern I'm seeing is that people are seeing snakes in the river type attractions. Has anyone seen any in the waters of the more active (slide) areas?

my 6 year old DD found a bull frog last year at ASMo, does that count for anything? she was 2 seconds away from getting in big trouble because she took off running from us and we had no idea why. She made it about 100 feet ahead of us and turns around with a bull frog in her hand. It was a very cute moment!!! She than dropped the frog and apologized to the frog.

Even though I am petrified of snakes, I wouldn't let it stop me from going there even after I saw the one. I figure that the odds of seeing another one like that are very slim. We've been in the water parks so many times and I've only see one snake in all that time. The employees at the water parks are on their A-game when a snake is spotted. They move like lightening to get to it and get rid of it so that women like me don't make a big scene!! I also live part-time in Central Florida and have only seen one in our community. I was more concerned about the alligator or whatever we have crossing the parking lot of our complex to get into the golf course pond!!! Now that I would be afraid of! I would stop worrying and just go have fun. I agree on one other post however, don't and I repeat don't go into Honey I Shrunk the Audience. It totally freaked me out and I couldn't wait to get out of there. Good luck!

I saw one crawling around the lanscape at the top of one of the water slides at Typhoon Lagoon a few years back. It was tiny and seemed harmless. If I hadn't been looking in that direction I never would have known.

Generally speaking, snakes are not fond of chlorinated water, and they won't go for it if there is a nice ordinary puddle around. They end up in pools when they are thirsty; they go in at night for a drink of water and cannot figure out how to climb out up the smooth sides.

Most of the snakes that you might see around WDW are not water snakes. They are more likely to be seen on land, around shrubbery, and especially in overgrown areas where there is garbage nearby (not that the snakes like garbage all that much, but they like the mice and bugs that like the garbage.)
