It's also our school's policy not to allow specific teachers to be requested. But in practice, it's the current year's teachers that get together and make up the class lists for the subsequent year. So, the best way to get a specific teacher is to make your wishes known to the current teacher. And often the best way to start that conversation is to ask her her opinion of which teacher she thinks would be the best match (and why). If you like your current teacher and respect her (or his) opinion, enlist the teacher's help for the next year assignment.
Also important to note is that the class make up can be just as crucial as the teacher. My middle DD had a wonderful teacher who had 4 problem boys also that year. The whole class suffered for the entire year! This was 5th grade, and I guess the 4th grade teachers didn't do a good job of showing their lists to the 3rd grade teachers that year. That's an essential step, because you don't want to put back together students who were intentionally separated the prior year!
