Going in June and this is the first time we are leaving Disney to go visit Universal. Can anyone give me tips on how to get there. I heard you could rent a car on Disney Property. Has anyone done this? And where?

Thanks,

Yes, I always rent after I get there. There is a rental place by the TTC and rentals in the Dolphin. There are also, I believe, rental places in the DTD hotels.

Forgot to say this. Once you decide which location to rent from, you can schedule the free pick-up/drop-off van. They will get you from your resort, take you to the rental place, you rent, and off you go.

When its time to turn in the car, they give you a lift back to your resort!

We did Alamo. It was easy. They picked us up and took me back. I dropped off the family and then returned the car myself.

Last July after a cruise in Miami, we rented a car from Hertz and dropped it off at the Caribe Royal Hotel. Hertz drove us back to our resort. Nice and easy!

i use the rental desk at the Grovesner.............excuse me..........Regal Sun......its a 3 minute walk from Downtown Disney Marketplace.

Has anyone ever rented a car at the airport and returned it on property? We're arriving in Orlando a few days early for a conference and want a car during the conference, but want to waste as little time as possible on our check-in day. If we could check in, then return it somewhere on property, that would be ideal.

As long as your rental reservation lists the drop off spot you will be fine. The car needs to be reserved with the correct pick up and drop off locations. Be aware that rental rates may be different since you are picking the car up at the airport but not dropping it back there.

There are no additional "drop charges" on one -way rentals within Florida except for Key West due to the distance, but the rental rate you get will most often be a little higher since you are not dropping off where you picked up, and sometimes, not always, promotion coses and discounts may not apply. Check the terms and conditions if you are using any codes or coupons.

I tried to go that route, but I think it's much more expensive (if at all available). Ultimately, I took Magical Express to Poly, checked in and then took bus to Marketplace and walked to Hilton to rent from Avis. When I returned it, I just hopped on the bus Hilton offers to MK where my family was. Good luck, that way worked great for me.

I don't think we can do that, though, because we're arriving on the 14th but not checking into AKL until the 16th. We need the car from the 14th-16th.

The other possibility is to return the car to the airport on the 16th and catch ME to the AKL from there, but we don't want to waste park time.

Cool! Thanks for all the tips. What does TTC from the 2nd post stand for?

It's been awhile back. But once we rented a car at the airport and returned it to the Car Care Center right by Hess/Richard Petty. They even drove us in a van to the park of our choice! :thumbsup2

TTC = Ticket and Transportation Center. The hub to get to MK via monorail and boat.

This is best asked on the Transportation Board.. and I'll be moving this one there.

Thanks!

On our last trip in Dec, we took ME from MCO to BWV and then rented through Alamo at the Car Care Center and took the car back to MCO for our departure. We only did that because the rates were at least $150 cheaper than doing a pick up and return from MCO - not sure why. But, it was very easy and the Alamo van picked us up at BWV right on time.

Just curious - isn't there an Alamo desk at the Dolphin?

There is an Alamo desk at The Dolphin, but I wasn't getting as good of a rate using that for some reason. :confused3

We did this last year because it saved us $200 to rent from the Dolphin and return to MCO vs. roundtrip MCO.

I had a 1:00 pick-up time and we were at MK that day so I just slipped away, hopped on the bus to the Dolphin, got my car and was back to MK in less than 45 minutes.

What company is one of the DD hotels? And does anyone have any good discount codes for it?

Thank you in advance.
