Has Anyone Redeemed Air Miles for Disney Passes?

Don't know about taxes but we did have to pay for the no expiry and plus options based on the original ticket (not how many days were left on it)

I don't have enough airmiles for two 7day passes. I'm about 500 short. Has anyone every paid for the extra miles? Can you do it for something like this?

OMG, I posted a new thread 3 minutes ago about this (should have searched before).

Here it goes again:

Hi there,
Not sure if anyone thinks this a good deal, but I thought it was great for me and would like to leave the tip here.

I've been saving "Air Miles" for a long time, always thinking about redeeming them for a plane ticket.

I was going to get my tickets to Orlando (2200 miles for each adult) with my miles (and would still need to pay CAN 140.00 for the fees) when I found a very good deal (IMO) at selloffvacations: 2 adult tickets (TOR-ORL, direct flight) + 7 days at Best Western Lakeside + car rental for 7 days for CAN 1.022 (it's now down to CAN 962.00 and could be even cheaper once it gets closer to the departure date - 10th of September).

Searching the Air Miles rewards, I saw a 5 day WDW adult tickets for 2105 points. I thought it was a great deal, as well.

If I were to pay for these tickets (to me and my wife) they would have costed me over CAN 450.00.

They ended up costing me 4210 air miles. I leave this advice for those who have a lot of Air Miles saved up (I know a few people who have over 10.000 miles).

Thanks mickeywho? !!

We're just going to MK for 1 day so these options won't work for us unfortunately. Only 1400 airmiles in our account. We're more PC Points/Sears Club junkies.

I thought airmiles allowed you to purchase additional miles for $0.50 per mile. It may not work out to be the best deal then to use your airmiles this way. Maybe buy two 5day passes and pay the difference to disney?

My dh and son will have one day ahead of us in WDW is there such a thing as a one day pass through airmiles
or a Orlando flexi pass?

I just went on the AM site and from what I can see you can pay $0.30 per mile for additional miles and you must have at least half of the required amount, but it looked to me like it was only for flights. I couldn't find anything that said it applied to the other types of rewards.

I'm going to get the Mosaic MC so I will be able to cover the amount I'm short for 2 passes and maybe if I'm lucky I can earn enough miles to cover a third pass. I have lots of time ( going next August).

I gotten almost all of our passes thru Airmiles. Just love the fact they arrive very quickly via courier. Be sure and check them though when they arrive. One time I ordered a 7 day PHP, and a 5 day one arrived! Phoned Air Miles, and they had me send back the wrong one, and they promptly sent the correct one out. We have used the Air Miles passes to upgrade each time to AP and have had no trouble at all. Just love that they are part of the Air Miles program.

I purchased an AP by trading in my arimiles 5 day hopper with plus options. The Airmiles pass was valued at 282.00 and I paid the difference of 179.00. The aimiles passes are valued at what Airmiles (actually I think it is sunquest) paid.

HTH.

90 more days until I can use my AP again!!!!

Was that fairly recent? That gives me a good idea of how much we will pay now, and I will be getting the 5 dayMYW ones from Air Miles, as we are DVC members so we will get our discount added to that.

The Airmiles pass was purchased April 16, 2006.

I think you might want to check to see if you can use the DVC disount on that. They may not allow the "double dipping". Check with the DVC planning forum - they could probably tell you if you can trade in a ticket purchased at at discount for a discounted AP.
It sure would be great if you could!

How did you find prices for upgrades before going to Disney? Where did you find the costs? Just wondering if it is better to use airmiles for 2 base tickets and then add water park/hopper for both at Disney or use airmiles for 1 ticket with water park/hopper and buy the other ticket using cash?

Where do you go at Disney to upgrade your passes?

I learned last month that it is better to upgrade after you have used the ticket. Once used, the ticket is considered a "Disney" bought ticket, so any discounted tickets don't have to go through the "three step process" . (We had bought from both Ticketmania and Undercover Tourist, and I was concerned about the cost to upgrade. It was $2.00 + tax to add a day to my 6 day tickets.)

You upgrade at Guest Relations at the parks or at DTD. No problems for us on the few times that we have upgraded. BTW, don't try to upgrade at the resort. They aren't always "up" on all the costs.

I'd like to know this as well. I want to get the most out of my airmiles as well as minimize cash out of pocket. I now have to get 4 adult passes and would like have enough to cover 2 trips.

:) NOTE: check out this weeks Dominion/A&P/ The Barn grocery flyers. Amazing promotion to collect airmiles--it runs weekly for the next 4 weeks. I got my groceries today and earned 185 airmiles. :thumbsup2

How did you find this out? Could you give more details? What is the "three step process"?

As I understand it:

Apparently, Disney takes the value of the ticket (ie.what Ticketmania-or any other discounter) pays and determines the difference for that particular ticket. [step 1] Takes that difference and applies it to an equal Disney ticket [step 2]. Upgrades the "Disney" ticket. [step 3].

So, if TM paid 220 (out of the blue figure, here) for the 6 day, I would need to pay the difference to get a "Disney" 6 day, and then add the extra day to that price.

There was a thread that I read shortly before we left, and a CM explained the system, so I hope that I have it right. But don't forget.....with Disney, all things are subject to change. pirate:

That's seems to make sense from what I experienced in Oct 2004, when I converted a 7 days PAP Airmile tickets/pass to Annual pass. (wished I'd known about the use the first day part :confused3)
It was more than I had calculated the difference to be originally, because they give you the price of the ticket that Airmiles pays for it and not the value of gate price 7php and the price difference to the Annual pass.

They also seem to be a great deal of confusion on how to do because of the "3 step process" at GR when I was doing it. I guess it confusing to them too.

But all in all, still a great deal considering I got 24 days of park admission for 2 people

Sounds to me like I have read that before. What about using 1 day first before upgrading? How does that make a difference?

Thanks for the explanation Debbie! That's very interesting! So if I get my tickets from Air Miles, use 1 day at the parks and then upgrade to an AP on the 2nd day I could get a greater trade-in value?
