Has anyone recently stayed at the Wyndham Orlando International Drive?

I've heard so many mixed reviews about this place since booking it (got a great price through Priceline.com) and I'm just really leary about our upcoming stay there (one night after a one week stay at BCV). Has anyone been to the resort in recent weeks and if so, how was your stay?

Thanks,

Deb

My husband will be attending a conference at this hotel in March. The kids and I are going to tag along. They have Jr suites with bunk beds for the kids.

Has anyone stayed in this type of room?

Thanks,

Trena

I stayed there for a 1 night Priceline bid in June. This joint was truly awful. We had to park far, FAR from our room. Cleanliness is definitely not a priority for these folks. There seemed to be splatters of dirt and other unidentified fluids on every single surface in the room. I wouldn't let anyone take their shoes off in this room, carpet was a nightmare. I got this place with a $35 Priceline bid. $35 is much too much for the room I was assigned. If it hadn't been close to midnight I would have walked out and gone elsewhere....anywhere.

We have stayed lots and lots of room nites via Priceline bids, in Orlando, Washington DC, Williamsburg VA, etc. This was by far the worst property I've ever stayed at with a Priceline bid.

we stayed there a couple of years ago - on a Priceline - the resort was fine for us - the traffic on International Drive was a nightmare.

we had a nice room - we might have been lucky....

We are staying there on my birthday, the night before our cruise,... I have heard such polor opposite reviews, has anyone been there recently??/

This was under the Wyndham reviews and was dated 9/26/03 (cinnamon girl):

Stayed here 9/19-9/20. I tried to check in at 3:30, they told me my room was not yet ready, and to check back at 4. I came back at 4 and they informed me my room was still not ready. So I sat in the lobby and waited, watching about 15 people check in with no problems while I sat there. Finally, after another 20 min, I went to the desk and was told my room was still not ready! I told him I just sat there and watched 15 people check in, why can't I? I understand Im a priceline customer, but this is ridiculous! The clerk stated my room was still not ready because housekeeping could not get to the room due to all the construction going on!
He also said that there was a note next to my reservation stating I was to be placed in buildings 15 or 16, and asked if it was ok if he put me in a different building. I said I didn't care where he put me at this point! I was finally given a room in building 4, the room was decent, the air conditioner smelled a little like pee, but I was thankful to just be in a room at this point! This room had no balcony, just looked out at a parking lot. I'd give the room 2 stars and the grounds 3.
When I went to check out the buildings 15 and 16 that they wanted to put me in I was shocked! The ground all around both those buildings was all torn up, and there were backhoes and tractors making all kinds of noise! If they had put me in one of those rooms, I would have flipped! There are some really decent rooms here with balconies overlooking some nice scenery, but don't expect to get one through priceline! For 35 bucks, this is a good deal, but I wouldn't pay full price for this hotel.

At least this review makes me feel a little better. I'll only be there 1 night on Thanksgiving weekend so hopefully there won't be construction going on!!

Good luck to everyone whose booked there thru Priceline!!!

I stayed here with DD11 one night last month via priceline. Front desk was courteous. Room was clean, but smelled a bit musty. We were toward the front near I-Drive and it was noisy!

We enjoyed the pools and hot tub the evening we were there, but it was quite a walk from our room. In fact, when I asked a security guard if there was a shorter way back, he gave us a lift back to our room on his golf cart!!

For the price I paid, it was okay. I would stay there again if I got it on priceline, but I would never pay the going rate!

We stayed here in building 9 and it was good. They had just redone the building and everything was pretty new--in the last year I would say....the grounds were nice.

The only thing that really stunk was we were on floor 2 and there was no elevator.....had to lug heavy suitcases up 2 flights of steps..

I also thought the front desk staff was really friendly.....no problems

Not recently, but we stayed there about 15 months ago.

It was truly awful :(. Wouldn't have been worth it if it were free.

Good luck,

Teresa

Ugghhh

I have it for 3 nights before going to the Swan. I did PL for $35 but it sounds like I will be sorry. I have a 3 yo who will probably be crawling, rolling around onthe floor. I might "eat" my $105 and try for something with a better reputation. Sometimes it doesn't pay to be penny wise!!!!

Thanks for the thread. I've been stressing over my stay there and this is really helpful information.

Here is my review of this resort. We stayed her July of last year.

For this vacation we stayed at the Wyndham Orlando resort on International drive, and only one word can describe this experience HOSPITALITY! The staff at this resort is excellent. It almost feels like staying on Disney Property. They greet you everyday and welcome your every need and help with anything they can. When we got to our room we had a letter in there from the manager welcoming us to the resort. And the day before we left we got a call from the manager asking how everything was. Their was name brand toiletries, free daily USA Today paper, free coffee and more.

Now onto the resorts grounds. Only one word can describe this AWESOME! You would think being on International Drive this resort would be small. That's not the case it is huge. I can't remember how many acres it is but it is huge. There are three large swimming pools, three restaurants, two tennis courts, basketball court, wedding pavilion and more. The landscaping here is done very nice also. The grand lawn is huge and people liked to go play games on the lawn. At the end of the lawn is a beautiful fountain. There are even man made lagoons all over the resort where ducks come everyday. Every morning my sister and I would go out and feed them.

Now onto the rooms. The room is your typical hotel room but it is so much more. The room is very clean. You won't find dirt here the maids are excellent. There is a very large closet when you come into the room also which is very nice to store things. The bathroom is small but you can live with it. We had a work table that was well lit with two chairs. We also had two phones in the room with separate lines. We also had a great balcony overlooking one of the lagoons. It was a beautiful site to wake up to every morning. We were in building 9 room 955. It was in the back of the resort but was not an awful walk to the front. The resort offers a tram service for those who don't want to walk it.

Well that pretty much wraps it up. But I will close with this. The second we walked into the lobby we knew what we were in for. The lobby was elegant and very clean and the second more then two people were waiting in line to check in another person came out to help. You are really treated like family here and I recommend this resort to anybody. If you have any questions post them or private message me. I would love to help you out. We will be back to this resort.

It seems like either people love or hate this hotel.. I hope I am lucky and get one of the great rooms! :)

Well, I wanted to update everyone about my stay at the Wyndham Orlando on International Drive. I was very hesitant because of reviews I had read so I made another reservation, and notified the Wyndham that I was forgoing my reservation there and the reason why.

I received a reply from the Room Director, asking if I would reconsider (now keep in mind I had purchased the room through Priceline so I was going to have the eat the cost anyway). He stated that while there are negative reports out there, he has no way of defending the resort from them. He said if I reconsidered, he would give me an upgrade and personally inspect the room before we arrived. I decided to give it a chance.

Last Friday before checking in, I called to see of the room would be ready. I was told it would be in another half an hour. We drove to the hotel and were given keys to a room in bldg 8. It was just fine! Now I will say this is a huge place that caters to conferences and it's not the newest, but I found nothing to be out of place. The room was perfectly clean, the towels were nice, thick and soft and we even had a welcome tray of fruit, cheese, crackers and soft drinks along with a personal note welcoming us.

We looked out onto a lagoon and the swimming pool was just to the right.

About an hour after checking in, I received a phone call from one of the managers, asking if everything was to our liking. He assured us that it didn't matter what we paid for our room...they wanted to make sure all was done right. And it was! We had a perfectly nice stay!

Now I'm sure there are those who might have dealt with bad situations...but I also think the "squeaky wheel gets the grease".....although I guess it shouldn't have to be that way.

I am glad I made contact beforehand and I'm also glad I gave the resort a chance!

I stayed there for 2 nights with dh & ds last February. I also got the hotel thru a Priceline bid. Dh had a training seminar to attend while ds & I went to Universal during the day. We didn't have any problems with the hotel. We stayed in a building in the back but I don't recall the number. We had a first floor room. Our room was clean. The staff was courteous. We were pleased with the hotel overall. I would definately go back. I also liked its close proximity to Universal.

debbie, just saw your update. I'm glad that you had a nice stay & that they were able to keep your business. It sounds like they have improved customer relations - many hotels nowadays just don't care.

Thanks for posting the good reviews as well. I'm feeling better now.

I spoke with a woman in the exec. offices and explained that I didn't want to get there at 7pm to find all they had was a dirty, worn room for me to stay in. She assured me that it was a 4-star hotel and that she didn't know where the bad reviews were coming from. So I'll give it a shot and at least I now have a name to throw around if I have any problems with the room when I check-in!

Thanks for everyone's input - I do feel a little more at ease now!!! ::yes::

I just wanted to add that I've stayed there twice this year before my stay at the Royal Pacific and after my stay at the Embassy Grand Beach Resort. Both times were excellent. I read the reviews after my first one and thought maybe my next would be horrible but I guess I was one of the "lucky" ones also.

There is definitely an inconsistency in the service at this place which does concern me.

We use to stay at the Wyndham resort all the time untill our last visit in april,When i say we stayed there ,it was at least on 6-7 different stays. On our last stay we were placed in a room close to i drive. The room was worn dirty and stunk! It was so bad i walked to the drug store across the street to buy a plug in ,and some spray,The housekeeping was terrible ,Had to track people down to get towels, coffee, ect...I love the wyndham!!!! But they wont see me in there anytime soon!!!!!! I will spend my hard earned money elsewhere,I do hope all of you have a great trip and please let us know how your stay went.

Just a quick review from my one-night Priceline stay:

Checked in around 4:30pm and requested a room away from I-Drive. Was given #510. Just close enough to the parking lot to allow for convenience. Room was clean - didn't think it was overly worn considering it's age. Did notice the faint musty smell, but that would be my only complaint. Everything else was good, especially at $35.

Hope that helps anyone out who has won it on Priceline!!!
