I'm looking for recommendations - a good deal, but good quality. I'm thinking that we want the new lightweight hardside stuff with the spinner wheels. Anyone purchase some recently that they're satisfied with?

We're mostly looking for carryon size that is also sturdy enough to be checked. DH and I have some that are about 20 years old and wearing like iron, but they're so heavy compared to the newer ones we've seen. And DS's cheapie one is on it's last leg at about 8 years of age. So, I think it is time.

So hit me with suggestions and recommendations - I'm all ears!

We are members at Sam's and Costco, so both would be options if either are a good source.

Just ordered/received a new 21 inch spinner and wheeled under seat bag from ebags.com.

I love the ebags brand. While the only piece of luggage I own is the carry on backpack (Motherlode Weekender Junior I think it's called), I love it more than any of my other pieces. I have used it probably about 6 times in the last year and has been awesome. So much can fit inside and it is easy to carry.

If I wanted to replace my "big" luggage, I would first be looking at ebags.

Their packing cubes, pack-it-flat toiletry bag, and small zippered cases are great too!!

we did the 2.0 samsonite at macys they are hard and work great. price wise they are $130 ish on sale but if you have coupons and the sale prices you can probably get them cheaper. I just got 5 in the last two year and our 2 yr old can push and pull it which makes it nice

I bought two Disney suitcases from American Tourister in November. They are soft-sided with a Mickey print all over. With the 30% off coupon the prices were very reasonable. They are absolutely adorable and have held up well on 3 trips so far!

We have LLbean carryall duffels. Fits nicely in the overhead on Jetblue and delta.

I got a hard shelled one from Marshall's a couple of years ago, it has held up great! I think its a Samsonite.

Check out Marshalls. We bought from there last year and the prices could not be beat. There were several name brands that I had looked at on ebags or in stores.

Thanks everyone, you've pointed me in some good directions! And eBags almost always has Southwest Shopping points, so that would be more reason to check there. Thanks all!

Huge Samsonite fan here, and Kohls sells them. Retail price is high on Samsonite -I just got DH a new 19" wheeled spinner which retails for $319 - it was on sale for $159 at Kohls plus an extra 30% off. Can't beat that. He travels weekly for work so we're very hard on luggage, and Samsonite has always held up the best for us. Good luck!

We got a very nice set before our trip this fall on sale at Kohl's - used some Kohl's bucks on top of the %age off & really got a great deal. Samsonite brand. We had plane/gate/flight changes etc on our way back & since we gate checked our carry on the luggage arrived a few days later - amazingly still in great shape.

I travel about 2 weeks a month and travel to Europe and South America about every other month for a week. I invested in Boyt Luggage since it's super durable and made in USA. My work gave me a Tumi carry on bag for my 10 year anniversary. It is all carbon fiber with the company logo. I have had bad luck with Samsonite and American tourister.

I use ebags for almost all luggage and accessory purchases - far better to have thousands of reviews at your fingertips than the 20 you'll get here, plus be able to directly compare options and have access to hundreds more suitcases than you would in-store. There are usually reviewers who call out discrepancies or give more detailed information than what is listed. I'm extremely picky about size and functionality, so that's really helpful to me. You should get a discount code if you sign up for their mailing list, and the deals are pretty good if you wait for sales. (I don't work for them, just a happy customer - including with returns :) )

If you only travel once or twice a year by air, spinners and extreme lightweight suitcases may not be worth an increase in price, although the difference may not be big enough to be of concern. And be very careful about carry-on sizes. Sometimes manufacturers and stores don't include wheels and handles when they list dimensions, but they count with the airlines.

We love our Eagle Creek luggage with its lifetime warranty. Ours has travelled at least a million miles with us and have held up well. They will usually fix broken wheels and handles for free if sent to them. They have unique colors so your bags will stand out. They don't make you look rich and make you less of a target for thieves when overseas.

If you want a bag that will last a lifetime, Eagle Creek is a great option. They sell them at RCI if you want to look at them. Wait for a 20% off sale to get a good price.

Two years ago I bought a set of Rockland Luggage hard side spinner luggage from Ebags, and it's working great! I paid $135 for a set of 3, but it looks like the 20" carry on is around $75. http://www.ebags.com/product/rockla...ndable-abs-carry-on/212677?productid=10372653

I've used them a ton and they've held up really well so far.

We bought a 3 piece set of IT brand from ebags last year before our trip. It was $199 and we got free shipping. It is very lightweight and easy to push/pull. It is the hard side kind which is nice and sturdy.
