We just got our first confirmed ressies and there is some info on it. Just curious if others have used it. Thanks

I just got off the phone and got it for our first trip this April. We are using 209 points, so it cost us $53.84. I figured it was worth it, even if we will only get reimbursed $5. per point - It's better than losing everything.

I would consider it if you are late in your use year and would not have time to use holding account points.

I have not used it for DVC vacations, but I've used the same company (Travel Guard) many times and had to file claims twice. They are an excellent company. Their customer service people are very knowledgeable and their claim service was very good both times we had to file.

So the fee is based on what your points are that you are using? I agree with the other poster too.....about the end of Use Year. We will be at the end of ours too. Thanks

What happens if there is some weather event? We are planning a trip for September, so there is a risk of hurricanes both here in NC and of course in FL. We are rather far inland, so it is unlikely that a hurricane would delay us more than a day in leaving.

We will be driving, so not worried about flights, and will be at the beginning of our use year. If one hit during our stay, we would just hang out in the room and :drinking1 for the day (no worries, no kids involved here) so that wouldn't be a problem either.

However, would DVC let us put the points back if we had to delay a day due to a hurricane warning?

Have never bought the insurance but always wondered what types of things you are insured for. I assume it is you have to cancel because of serious illness requiring hospitalization or death of one of the people traveling. Anyone have any more specific info they could share. As we are getting older and traveling with young grandchildren it might become more attractive in the future depending on what is covered.

I can't offer a whole lot of info, but I can tell u of our experience in 2004 (we ended up not get the trip insurance). We were going on a 7 night Magic cruise that had been planned and paid for 18 months in advance. About 6 months prior to our trip, my mil who had been valiantly fighting cancer for 3 years (and doing very well), took a turn for the worse and was placed on hospice. We didn't know what we should do. She was given 4 months to live, but hospice told us she was doing pretty good and had a strong heart and they saw people go for much longer. My mil insisted we go on our cruise. I called the trip insurance company supplied via the DCL and they said they would not cover any cancellations on our part due to the health of my mil. She was not traveling with us, but obviously if she got really bad, we would have not have wanted to go on the cruise. So, we found out that the insurance company would not cover any health-related cancellations due to a preexisting medical condition (i.e. cancer, heart condition etc). Just something to consider.

I purchased travel insurance for an upcoming trip to Jamaica (BIL wedding trip). For $9.00 extra I was able to purchase a "pre-existing condition waiver" - which means, I am told, that inability to travel related to a pre-existing condition would be covered. This had nothing to do with Disney or DVC and I don't know offhand who the insurance carrier is - but I thought it was interesting that such a waiver exists.

To the OP: we've never purchased the DVC insurance but I would consider it if it was very late in my use year - especially if I was bringing others along and using a large amount of points.
