I'm considering buying Pal Mickey on our late August trip. I know that there are many fans out there, but has anyone paid the <Gulp> $65 and thought that it just wasn't worth it???

Just looking for opinions, trying to hear all sides of the story...

Thanks for any advice you can give...

Excellent question.

You hear loads of 'for' Pal Mickey stories but would like to know if anyone has been less than impressed.

We are leaving in 9 days (can't believe it!!!!) and I just know dd is going to want a Pal Mickey...but she's so young, I'm thinking of persuading her to buy just a regular Mickey. Something like this over $50.....just make me pause and wonder...is it REALLY worth it???? :flower:

For us it isn't really if it was just me and DH, but my dd loves it so much it really was worth it.

My bf and I bought one last May and it was neat but

- I kinda got tired of carrying it around
- I was worried about dropping it/losing it

We took it back this December and it stayed in the room the whole time. Then I heard about the newer one coming out in May so I listed our PM on eBay and it sold for about $55.

I'm thinking about buying the new one b/c it sounds cool, but I haven't decided if I will yet. I'm worried that I won't buy it though and I'll get home and regret it :confused3

I bought mine last year from a site I heard about here for something like $26. We didn't really like it. He was hard to hear, told the same jokes over and over and no one wanted to carry him around. He spent most of the trip in our room. We are going back next month and haven't decided if he's coming along. ::MickeyMo

::MickeyMo Hubby and I bought Pal Mickey and I was immediately disappointed in him. LOL He wasn't rally telling me anything that I didn't already know and was hard to hear. So we ended up returning ours with no problem. :flower:

::MickeyMo That was in 2003. A year later, I took my almost 5 year old daughter and thought that Pal Mickey would be nice for her at least. So I ended up buying him off EBAY brand new. She loved him and it kept her occupied in lines. So I am still the proud owner of a Pal Mickey. :confused3

::MickeyMo AND, I want the new version, even though I realize that I will probably again regret buying the darn thing. LOL :rotfl:

I just regret the fact that I bought a plain ole one last year when I could have bought a newer, fancier one this year. :guilty:

I don't have a PM but I always thought that it would be annoying to carry it around. It's pretty large isn't it? It even looks cumbersome on the planning video when they are advertising it.

We rented one in November 2003 for a day. The deal was that you pay the $8 rental fee and if you decide to buy it at the end of the day they take the money off the purchase price. Sounded like a good deal.
I got stuck carrying it around. Since there were 5 of us everytime it said something we stopped to listen to it. That lasted for about an hour until we got bored, stuffed it in the backpack and considered it a good $8 spent.
You might want to check to see if they still have that deal. :cool1:

But there are a lot of people out there that seem to love their Pal Mickey. :earsgirl:

I know there are several for sale on ebay lately, but if you purchase, you might hold off and buy the "New" ones which will have updated information in them.

My son wanted one, so I bought one for him last month. He enjoyed listening to him while we're standing in line. He likes listening to his jokes, then he tells us the jokes. He was fascinated about when and where it didn't have much waits and when/where the parades are.

He didn't mind carrying it around. It was actually hooked on the lanyard. I guess when you buy it (not rent it) you get a lanyard. It was worth it... He likes PM! He had PM wherever he went.

What is this new PM coming out in May? Is it the design is different or the things he say is different? Does anybody know?

We also rented one for the day for $8 before just paying the $65.00, to see if we liked it first. We were there last summer and had our 5DD and 1DS with us. First, it was hard to hear him and no one wanted to be stuck carrying him, even though he has a clip you can clip on your pants or belt. Second, all he did was tell jokes and stuff. He is supposed to remind you of parade times, etc. Well, we were on the street waiting for the parade and he never once even mentioned the parade. Needless to say we returned it the next morning and did not purchase.

Hopefully the new and improved one will be better, but when we go back we may rent him to see!

We bought one and regretted it. It isn't nearly loud enough to hear what he says without holding him up to your ear--and even then you may miss some of what he says...plus he's a pain to carry around. I should sell him on ebay.

I just wanted to let you know that they no longer allow him to be rented. He is for purchase only. Maybe you can borrow him from a friend to take with you to see how the new one works.

We bought one...it was stolen...bought another...and regretted it! I only replaced the first, because it was a b-day gift for son, and I never admitted to anyone it had been stolen!

Cumbersome or annoying to carry a Pal Mickey around? Buy just one for the whole family, dissect it, and remove the electronics which I believe are in a small package about the size of a cigarette pack.
I read about somebody else doing this, but they also mentioned keeping the arm that has the hand that you press to hear jokes/trivia and to repeat a message you might have missed the first time.

Thank you for starting this thread - (and for those who have contributed to it). There's no shortage of Pal Mickey fans on this board, and I had almost talked myself into buying one of the older ones - at the discounted outlet price - because I thought it might entertain my 14-year-old granddaughter who has ADHD. However, after talking with my daughter (DGD's mom), she doesn't plan to let DGD take even her gameboy to the parks. I had thought it might be a good idea for when we're waiting at places like Fantasmic - but my DD said that if DGD can't sit and interact with the rest of us (including DD's fiancee) for 45 minutes to an hour, in the midst of fabulous Walt Disney World, then it's about time she learned to. We also talked about what a pain it might be to have one more thing to carry around. And - now that the new PM is coming out - with promised improvements such as interesting trivia and a louder speaker - I know I wouldn't be happy with the older version anyway. I can see that PM fans will be delighted to be able to buy new outfits for their PM, beginning later this year, but my income is too limited to be spending that kind of money on a "toy".
