Has anyone made their own veil?

Just curious. I am going to try and use my mom's but it has this cap thing that I don't really like so much. I would like to try and attach it to a comb if possible.

Thanks!

Jonette

i was thinking of makeing my own as well I was going to check our some veils in the stores and get an idea. Maybe then make a trial and see what happens. Carried out throught my wedding I am having hidden mickeys and i was planning to have them on my veil.I figured if i wanted a mickey veil i would have to make it myself.

I made one for a friend. It was way easier than the dress, I can tell you that! A few stitches and bingo, it's done. You can buy a tulle veil with the binding already around it to just sprinkle your mickey's on, if you want to take a shortcut.

Well, I know this isn't exactly what you were asking...

I didn't wear a veil. I made a floral headpiece to wear. Originally I thought about making it all out of daisies, but decided that matching the flowers in my bouquet would be better. So, I got pictures of what my bouquet "could" look like (from other Disney brides) and made the headpiece myself. It turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself!

I know you can find lots of instructions for different styles of veils on the internet, and even at craft stores. Michaels had lots of styles and different embellishments...I think you can easily make one!!

I also made my own wedding ears...but I had to buy the top-hat ears for DH!!! :rotfl:

Hi Jonette!

I made my own veil with instructions off of this website:

http://www.wegotgame.net/jen/veils.html

I ordered shimmer bridal illusion from:

http://www.classacttutu.com/

I purchased a metal comb at Joann, and swarovski crystals from www.artbeads.com

I posted a detail pic on your hidden mickey thread awhile back, but if you like, I can post the "how-to" pics I took during the process... :) It took a really long time, but I loved the way it turned out!

I realized I had this pic uploaded already. You can see how the tulle is gathered on the comb:

I can't wait to see them...this was a duplicate post...the system freaked me out! :cheer2:

happily! :)

I used white shimmer bridal illusion (108" wide), and had a 24" blusher layer, and 36" fingertip layer. Total length of tulle was 60", but you have to allow an extra inch or 2 for edging and attaching to the comb.

laying out the template
I made a template in Illustrator to get the radius I wanted, then pinned the template to the tulle in each corner, and trimmed...

pencil edging
I followed the instructions on the previously posted website for pencil edging. I used silver metallic thread and a small zig zag. If you want a more prominent silver edge, use a tighter zig zag (like satin stitch tight).

beginning the hand-gathering
I used double thread (knotted both ends together) to gather, so it would be stronger. Just whipstitch (?) and go!

attached to comb
After I gathered all the tulle, I knotted the end, then sewed it to the comb, bringing the thread around and through the teeth of the comb.

I'll try to upload some full-length photos tonight. If you have any questions, please let me know! It was a lot of fun making the veil, although it took a long time! The website says to add your embellishments before you gather the tulle. That does make it easier, but since my mom finished beading the veil for me, I had to finish the veil first. I did do the Mickeys before gathering the tulle, though...

good luck! :) If I had to do it over again, I would! :)
