Have you tried a combination of anti-inflammatory and anti-seizure rx's for sciatica, fibromyalgia, etc.

What is the good, the bad and the ugly?

I did about ten years ago. I was mis-diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia (I had a sinus infection), and was prescribed Gabapentin. It did not help at all with the pain, and I had some pretty terrible emotional side effects which included paranoia and suicidal thoughts. I hope you have good luck with it, but be aware of the side effects.

I have a prescription for it but have yet to actually take it. I'm pretty put-off by the list of potential side effects and just don't want to be taking medication like this.

I took a full dose for a while for some peripheral neuropathy and had great results with it. It did make me very drowsy, so I cut way back on the dose pretty quickly. It continues to treat my issues with a small dose at bedtime.

If you need to take it, try to take as small a dose as possible.

Oh, I hear you - so many drugs being prescribed now and the side effects are worse than what they supposedly fix. :scared: I’m in the process right now of trying to get an issue with my hand diagnosed - it’s been narrowed down to either tendonitis or neuropathy. Rooting for the tendonitis because the treatment options are so much less terrifying. Grace and peace to everybody else in chronic pain this morning. :flower3:

I was prescribed it when I had shingles and it didn't help a bit. I ended up with over the counter rub with lidocain and good ole fashioned advil and aleve. My son has permanent nerve damage in his spinal cord and takes it but it really doesn't do much good. He says it's just slightly better than over the counter but better than nothing.

Yes, the side effects are scary. I've decided to give it a try for a week or two, I'm kind of at the end of my rope with this pain.

It has been a while... I am sorry I don't remember more details, but I did not continue to take it.

Have you looked into LDN - Low Dose Narcan/Naltrexone. I know several for whom that has been effective!

Be very careful about taking it. Some people can't get off of it once they start taking it. DH was prescribed it for sciatica, but decided not to take it after discussing it in depth with his sister first (she's a nurse) and then asking his doctor several very pointed questions.

Ive been on it for 3 years, taking a break while pregnant. I take it for fibromyalgia and nerve damage. I take a pretty low dose, 1 in the morning and 2 at night. No side effects from it at all. I still have pain, but it isn’t like it was. If I forget a dose, I know it. And it has dramatically helped my IBS, which was a pleasant surprise. For me, the key to getting on and off it is to gradually build your dose, and wean off of it.

Geez, you guys are making it sound like Gabapenton is equal to shooting up heroin.

I’ve been on Gaba for probably 10 years? I take 900mg a day. I have been told by my neurologist that I can take 1800 a day. I have zero side effects. It does help with my nerve pain.

I started out on 100 and for the first week I had a three hour nap after taking the pill lol

Take the pill, the change in how you feel will be worth it.

Wow, i only took 300 mg one time (last night) and I felt drowsy today. Now I'm re-thinking taking this.

do you mind if I ask what dose?

I took it for about a year then was switched to Topamax. The Topamax worked better in my case but everyone is different.

I took it for neuropathy after my chemo treatments. My daughter took it. She has Lupus. Unfortunately, it can be very hard on your stomach. I had to stop taking it because it raised my blood pressure. Both my daughter and I noticed that we had to keep increasing the milligrams we took for it to stay effective.

I take Cymbalta for my Chemotherapy Induced Peripheral Neuropathy. It's made a HUGE difference!

My daughter was prescribed it for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia syndrome (POTS). After the first dose, she had a very bad reaction. She was crying uncontrollably, severe stomach pain, extremely dizzy, confused, etc. CAlled the ER and prescribing doctor, I was told not to give her another dose and put on allergic list.

Gave me massive hives including my face, lips, eyelids.
Still searching for a natural method for relief of neuropathy symptoms.
