We would like to try DVC and are thinking of renting points.....(we've even thought of buying at the Beach Club - sight unseen but our practical side has taken over - whew! We haven't even seen a DVC property yet but had such a good time when we were there that DVC sounds soooooo intriguing!)

Has renting points been a good or bad experience for anyone.....?

We are thinking of just renting a studio. Also, any thoughts on which resort we should rent at? Thanks for any info:D

I am a DVC owner.we love DVC we had never stayed at a DVC resort or even seen one until our trip last April.i had not been since i was a child and DH had never been.we seen places set up all over the parks and at the resort we were staying at about DVC,we checked it out and spoke with the person a little while and decided to make an appointment to take the tour.well the rest is history.we love DVC and think that is the best choice we have ever made.
on to your question,do you like the Epcot area hotel or MK and then if you want total relaxation you have to try OKW.we have looked around everyone of the DVc resorts and they are all beautiful.

I'm a DVC member (I have rented points to people many times). Members can book rooms 11 months in advance. Depending when you want to go and how particular you are on which resort, depends when you should contact someone. I have people make arrangements with me up to a year out (even though I can;'t reserve yet, so they can get exact;ly what they want) and have done it for people as little as 6 weeks in advance.

Althought the obvious popular times remain the same (Easter, Pres Day, Christmas, etc.) there are other popular DVC times like the beginning of Dec.

You should hop over to the rent board and do a little reading it will give you more info or feel free to PM me with other questions.

Good luck
Sandy

I rented points from a DVC owner through the Rent/Trade Board of the DISboards & had a very positive experience. In fact, after staying at OKW on the rented points this past Nov. we came home & bought a resale.

My suggestion would be to ask many questions on the Rent/Trade Board. I sent a lot of e-mails to a lot of different posters renting points. Many people have suggested renting from someone who has a lot of posts on these boards. The going rate seems to be about $10 per point. We actually got them for less than that but I would say that $10 would be a good rate.

There are many different areas you could try. I would say the busier DVC places would be the Boardwalk or Beach Club Villas, the quietest would be OKW & the one most convenient to MK would be the Wilderness Lodge Villas (it's only a boat ride away from MK).

Honestly, I have never heard of someone renting & having a negative experience. Good luck & enjoy when you do get there!!

I rented DVC points at BWV for my last trip. I had a great experience and found my "renter" on the DVC rent/trade board. I had such a positive experience with her I've had her book another trip for me later this year and she's booked trips for both my sister and my husband's co-worker. You have to trust the person you're renting from, and I do think getting references & checking them out is important.

Like another poster said, I've never seen anyone on the DIS boards having a bad experience in renting points. Just be aware, the cancellation policy is alot stricter and you need to figure out the payment method that works best for you and the renter.

So far, my experience in renting someone else's points is very good. I say "so far" because my actual trip is not until early December. You just have to take the plunge and trust somebody, I guess. I rented points for 3 nights at a one bedroom BWV for my solo trip. ( My first 3 nights will be at The Swan, though. ) I checked, and the reservation went through just fine !

I got in to see the one bedroom villa at BWV on my solo trip last December. Honestly......when I first saw the room, I almost started to cry. I felt that there's no possible way to afford this room without hitting the lottery. Then later, Very slowly......my attitude was changing to "I've GOT to find a way to afford this room" . LOL ! So, I read the rental board every day, and I studied the way people do things. The 2nd person I contacted turned out to be sucessful.

Good Luck to You, and Have Fun !
