I was just wondering whether any DISers out there who have had a gastric bypass, lap band or anything like that? What is hard to find things at WDW that you could eat after your surgery?
Any thoughts or stories?

My mom had gastric bypass done. It was really rough. She had such a hard time figuring out what she could/couldn't eat, the amounts, and how she chewed. Her throwing up was a typically occurance during our meals. She couldn't eat cheese at all, alcohol went straight to her head, and if she had too much sugar, she'd be in the bathroom.

One night, she was standing on the scale in the bathroom, complaining about how her skin sagged after losing over 160 lbs. and, at the time, I was about 175 lbs. I stated to her that she essentially lost me in weight. It seemed to really surprise her and she had a 5'6 representation of how much she lost.

I hope people do not look at this as a quick fix. Your life will not be perfect, happy, or better then it is now. My mom had many emotional problems before the surgery and it started to spiral out of control towards the end of her life (roughly 1.5 years after the operation).

I had the Lap Band placed in November 2004. I have had 6 fills with no success. I started off at 215 and now decided to go back to Weight Watchers (AGAIN).

BUMMER!

I know people who have had the surgery. They are not the skinny people they thought they would be. It is a life-altering surgery, but will not work as you expect if your mind cannot control your intake of food. That said, I wonder the surgery at all then. I think I'd struggle with the trying to control my food intake versus the quick fix that doesn't necessarily fix.

I look on this as a kind of last resort, but I'm not sure it's a happy choice.

As many of us know this lifestyle change we try to make using healthier eating choices and exercising more is not at all easy. I'd still encourage this over surgery.

An old boss of mine had it about 2 years ago... she's had some real issues.. actually got hooked on morphine because of complications she had...

She's 1/2 the size she was but honestly she does not look healthy at all....

two people on the dis boards died as a result of bypass surgery complications.
Surgery is note to be taken lightly. :sad2:
