From someone in FL? I've been up watching the news/weather this morning and due to the fact that Frances is moving so s l o w l y, I am concerned.
Just wondering how everyone is fairing with this thing.
Also wondering about DH's grandparents in Ocala, and my cousins in Tampa.

I live in Altamonte Springs (8 miles NW of Orlando). Lots of wind and rain as of 6:36 am (couldn't sleep). We still have power as well.

We still have power. I am about 15 mins. from the parks. The wind and rain are supposed to pick up later today.

You're cousins in Tampa should be fine, as of now. We are getting a few sprinkles, and very little wind. We have had a few rain bands come in throughout the night, but nothing out of the ordinary for we Floridians. That is so far.... I'll try to keep you informed, as long as we have power. They aren't expecting it to really hit us until later this afternoon. If they live in a mobile home they're being asked to evacuate, if not we're being asked to stay home. Hope this helps!

I just heard from someone in Ocala, some rain and winds so far, but nothing major. They still have power.

I've been concerned for her and her family. I'm glad it's not too bad there now, and with the hurricane losing some strength as it moves over land, maybe they will be fine.

Just checking in from Northwest Broward County. Things have seemed to calmed down, but the shutters are still up and last night we received minimum hurricane force wind gusts, as well as sustained tropical storm force winds. A tree is down across the street as well as many more in our development. I believe the worst has gone through, although we are still expecting some more nasty weather as Frances passes through the state.

Unfortunately, my grandparents as well as a couple of my aunts and uncles, live in Port St. Lucie in manufactured (mobile) homes, and I don't believe that they will have a home to return to. They all evacuated the area, thank goodness, but I am very concerned about their homes. My grandparents live in Savannah Club in Port St. Lucie, so if anyone has any info about what is going on in regards to damage, please let me know. Thanks for the pixie dust and prayers. It looks as if we will need it for quite awhile.

Reporting from the Tampa area, as of right now the bridges are still open and we are getting alot of gusts of wind.........lot's of leaves and small branches down. Not to much rain as of now but it's coming, I still have electricity. Went to work this morning and just got home.................they closed and the generator trucks were up and running......for them to close they must be expecting the worst. Will try and keep you posted.

Real bad squalls in the Kissimmee area right now. We are going into the bathroom till it passes. Still have powerl

I'm in Orlando, about 5 minutes away from WDW. We've had a bit of rain, and periods of heavy wind, but right now it's fairly calm (can't hear the wind whistling through the trees at the moment). We lost power briefly (less than 10 seconds) a few times through the morning, but nothing prolonged, we still have phone and tv service as well.

All our Florida Disers are in my thoughts and prayers.

Anyone know anything about Merritt Island? Our friends evacuated, but really worried about their home...... Stay safe everyone!

We are holding our breath and praying like crazy for my honey's family in Deland, FL, which is a little bit inland from Daytona Beach. We haven't heard from them. Launda and Tom's house is built up, but they had 6 inches of water in their yard before all of this hit. I am worried about them, thier animals, and their home. My mother outlaw lives about an acre and a half away, but is up a small rise. She has horrible health issues and I worry about her being there alone. Becca and her kids are a couple of miles further inland. They had to cut down a tree in a hurry before this happened. Becca was sick with strep and a 104 fever just before this hit too. I am worried about her and the possiblity that her kids might get ill too. Gabby's grandmother lives in Miami and left to visit some friends that live further inland, just before all of this really started to come ashore. She is the only family member that we know is safe. We have no idea how her home is though. She lives on the beach and her home was about 3 feet flooded with Andrew. So, we are waiting, watching, and praying. Maggie

Take care everyone..we are thinking of you and go where it is safe in your home when it gets bad.....

We are in Panama City and supposed to start feeling some of it by this evening, but more so on Monday. We have things ready for this, but it won't be anything like Opal in 95.

We stayed for that and the destruction as far as trees down in our neighborhood was unreal.

Give me earthquakes anytime. You don't have to do the waiting game, they strike and you have minor tremors afterward.

I am in SW Fl & we are getting some of the bands, but I think the worst may be over here. We have gotten wind gusts about 50 mph & some rains, but no flooding (at least not yet). My sister & Mom are in Palm Coast, north of Daytona & south of St Augistine. My Mom's area had a mantatory evac (she is visiting family in NY so she isn't there), she is east of I-95. My sister is west of I-95 and no evac's. I spoke to my sister about an hour ago. They have had winds & rain but so far she hasn't heard about any major damage or flooding. She is without power but phones are still working. They are under a tornado watch until 9pm. She also said that she did go out and drive to a supermarket that was open, did see many down tree limbs & trees. Didn't drive near my Mom's due to having to go over a small bridge & didnt' want to chance with the wind gusts.

I just wanted to thank everyone in FL for taking the time to keep us informed. I know you are all stressed from the storm, along with family and friends of yours.

waughzee,
Thank you so much for that update. That does help out. DH's grandparents aren't slow movers (they act like they are 25!), but I still worry for them. It made me feel better knowing they at least boarded up their windows.

mickeysaver,
Just wanted you to know that your family is in my prayers, along with everyone elses. The DIS boards are my family now and we are all here to support one another.

chyam,
Thanks for the update from Tampa. My cousins are smart people, and know what is best for their safety, but they just bought their first home and have only been married for 3 years. I just pray they weather the storm ok.

Once again, to all...keep safe and check in when able so we know you are alright!!!

Just wanted to check back in. The worst of the hurricane is over. We were lucky and didn't lose power or phones.

My roof sustained a lot of damage. It is a total loss. It's still there but will all need to be replaced.

We were so lucky compared to many. My daughter and son in law are here waiting to go back to their home in Melbourne. They don't know how their new house made out during the Hurricane.

safetymom, so glad you go through it ok! I hope that your kids are as well off as you are!
