Has anyone heard this particular rumor?

I've been hearing that some WDW full service restaurants (like Citrico's, Kona Cafe, etc.) are/have taken filet mignon off the menu?

Is that true?

Not good if it is, particularly Citrico's. :(

Check the restaurant board, I think I read something over there....

Thanks OrlandoMike. I went over there last night and had a hard time finding anything specific.

I'm mostly concerned about Citrico's. :( We don't do the DDP, and it was going to be a special meal there. :( Filet is DPs favorite "celebratory" choice so for it to no longer be offered would be a problem.

Any other recommendations (we are already doing YSH for the same vacation) that will still have filet mignon as an option?

I hate the DDP. Sorry but the past few years, the restaurants have gone way down hill. We love the signature restaurants, or loved them. Each time we go it's just less special. This is one reason we dont do WDW as often as we used to.

Sad!

I so agree with you - we pretty much only go to the signature dining - and every one of them seems to have gone down hill - except Jiko they still seem to have pretty high standards.

Although I think some of this has to do with the DDP, I think there is more to it than that and the blame is somewhat misdirected. Disney is a public company so they have to answer to their shareholders and will continue to look for ways to maximize profits. This is no different then outsourcing certain postions, bringing in a third party to run a new to be built hotel, etc.

Whatever -
Either way - my point is things have gone down hill
from just a few years ago.

It's not like their prices haven't gone up. the restaurants are filling up regardless - and I would assume many of the patrons are on the dining plan.

I'm just sayin that the quality has gone down unfortunately. Maybe it's cooincidence that the dining plan has gotten so popular.

Oh and about Jiko - this is a MUST do on all trips to WDW.

It's very hard to have to hear that the food service at WDW is going downhill. :sad1: (I just made a reservation for Narcoosee's, so I'm hoping that that place is still good. :lmao: ) The last time I went to WDW (November 2006) I had some concerns with the quality of food in general at some of the restaurants. Up until that last trip I had never had a meal that wasn't satisfying at WDW. Oddly enough, the only place I ate at that impressed me was at the Crystal Palace........and I hate buffets! :lmao:

I hope the restaurants start getting things together again, because it's really kind of upsetting to read all the bad reviews online of numerous restaurants. The food at WDW used to be amazing no matter where I went (which is a hard feat considering you can't please everyone 100% of the time). I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Sincerely,
A diabetic who loves food perhaps a bit too much

I was SO unimpressed with Narcoossee's that I will never eat there again. I tried it the first time while dining alone (june 06) was ignored and generally treated like a second class person - ok - so that is the particular server. The food was so-so. I get better Italian from my local pizza place. Seriously.

We went as a group (3) in Oct oc 06 - the food was WORSE!! My hunny (Tiggr33) was really unhappy with her dinner - the only part she liked was the muscles (PEI). She had muscles at Captains Grill that were just as good...so no more Narcoossee's for us.

Sad to hear about the filet - but I am sure there will be some other choices - not everyone eats steak all the time.

the sad part is that they can get away with the food being mediocore.(sp?). Since so many are on the DDP why would they complain? And they figure well your on property - you have to eat....

I have no problem spending $$$$ on a good meal - if you saw me you would know that ;) there are few outstanding meals to be had at WDW these days. Many of these restaurants would NEVER survive outside of WDW at those prices with that quality of food.

I agree with this as well! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
It's like airport food - "Oh well, the sandwich is $29.50 I'm here and I gotta eat something."
You'd never go for it if you had another choice right there.
WDW does still have a few good to great places - but outstanding? - not so sure any more. :guilty:

I have to agree to a marked decline in the quality of food and service in the table service restaurants of WDW. :( The DDP is a suspicious factor, I must admit.

From a purely personal (and selfish) point of view, the DDP has all but ruined walk up dining. We used to really enjoy walking around the WS on a Friday night and then heading off somewhere (in or out of the park) for dinner. We had to change our first choice from time to time, but we always found some place that had room for two walk ins.

But then, I find WDW less clean that in past years, lower staffed, monstrously high prices, etc.

Although we still go (and hold APs) we've changed our attendance quite a bit. Not only do we not go as often, but we stay for shorter amounts of time, and we usually find a lovely place off site to dine.

Moderating on the Restaurant Board is not always easy as there are many who love to do battle over the merits of the dining plan.....I have to say I am one that thinks it is the reason that the restaurants are becoming mediocre at best and that just upsets me as part of our Disney vacations is fine dining....getting harder and harder to find on property..

Maybe when people start eating off property, Disney will stop taking high end items off their menus....What else can it be, if some of us pay out of pocket and do not use the DP and would pay for the higher end meals, it has to be that they do not want to give the expensive items away with the DP.

I know it is all about the profits, but geez it is getting annoying.

I'd like to think a lot of it has to do with the time of year that you go to the restaurants, and the time of day as well, as far as being able to get a table is concerned. When I went in late November a couple years ago I was able to walk into a couple table service and even a signature dining place without having reservations. Having lunch an hour or two later than most people tends to allow you to not have to wait for places like the Crystal Palace. The only problem is, are you willing to wait the extra hour or two.....especially with kids who are starving? :confused3

There are any number of very nice restaurants just short drive from WWD in the Dr. Phillips area. Everything from Morton's to Too Jays is available and you will receive excellent service and decent (at least proportionately fair) prices. I believe these particular restaurants try so very hard because they WANT repeat customers! Novel thought.

I think I had that server in February. I'm not sure why she was there because she certainly was no server. We definitely were imposing on her thinking that she should bring us some food from the kitchen.

The food was good, but man the service terrible!! Waffle house service would have been a step up.

I had heard the rumor, but I was never able to find any SOLID details about it. It seemed that places that were one credit on DDP were taking filet off their menus.

We ate at Flying Fish, Citrico's, Narcoosee's, and Yachtsman this month and they were ALL very good. Best service was at Flying Fish and Yachtsman. None of our servers were bad, but Jacki and Ricardo were over-the-top great.

We had filets at Yachtsman and Narcoosee's. I brought home menus from Flying Fish and Citrico's, so if I can find them I can see what they had as far as steaks. I have only managed to unpack 2 out of 9 bags so far, but I know the menus are here somewhere.

Pics of our dinners are in my trip report - link in my signature. :)
