Back in January there was a news report on a conversation with Jim Lewis, president of DVD, in which he was discussing Hawaii and avoiding confirming that the construction at Contemporary was a new DVC, and in which he mentioned DVD was considering many options for the future and he mentioned Lake Tahoe and the Caribbean. In other words, it was not anything beyond the "just thinking about" stage and many a DVC has never gotten beyond the "just thinking about" stage. Even if it were to happen, not likely something you will see for at least 7 years.
Jim Lewis has been quoted as mentioning Tahoe a number of times.
There was also a survey sent to many DVC members earlier this year which asked for feedback on three non-theme park locations. Those locations were Las Vegas, the Caribbean and Lake Tahoe.
From what I have read about Tahoe, I believe it is one of the best locations they could build in the US away from a theme park. Cold enough for skiing in the winter--warm enough for watersports in the summer. For years there have been rumors of a DVC ski resort in Colorado. One of the problems there is filling the resort in the non-ski months. Tahoe seems like a more attractive alternative, IMO.
As others have mentioned, we heard it in earlier rumors. Not too thrilled ... we already have 4 properties in Tahoe through other timeshare, don't need another. I'd rather a reasonable option in Tokyo!
We would like a Tahoe option within DVC... I have been trying to learn to ski for a couple of years now (hard to teach an old dog new tricks) and maybe in a few years I could be ready to try skiing out west!! I actually got down one hill without falling once last year! Tahoe would be very cool...I hear it's beautiful.
