Has anyone heard of this treatment for Strep Throat?

landmark, you gave me a laugh. I remember how much my son is afraid of needles and shots, and he never once complained about this one!

Those darn shots hurt. I had pneumonia almost the entire month of July and by the end of July I got strept. I opted for the shot. Goodness, that hurt. I was glad to not have to take that 10 days of medication, but gosh darn it, that stuff hurt. That needle was so thick. I got a bruise from it.

Another advocate of the shot here. DS had a fever of 105 ( ) on (of course) a Saturday night. When the fever went that high, we took him to the ER where they did the quick test, positive for strep, and gave him...THE SHOT. Well, the boy was fever free and running around within hours of the shot (it did not bother him at all that it was 3AM  )

If we are in that situation again, I will ask for the shot. BTW, DS did not complain of pain or anything else, at the injection site. Nor did I notice any problem.

Hope your DS is feeling top shape again soon.

ehhh shots just scare me! i used to have to get my blood drawn every 2 weeks, you would think im almost 20 and i wouldnt be scared of needles!haha

My son has always been extremely afraid of needles! Like I said earlier, when he gets sick, he gets REALLY sick. When he was about five, he needed a blood test because he wasn't responding to his medicine. He was like a limp doll, until the Dr. came in and said, I think he needs a blood test. He knew what those were. He yelled, BLOOD TEST, I DON'T NEED ANY ##$%$#%$ BLOOD TEST, I HAD ONE OF THOSE BEFORE! That's why i was surprised when he didn't even complain today about getting a shot!

LOL! I remember telling her "see it worked... your throat doesn't hurt anymore." Course then it was her bottom. She did bruise but it's because she tensed so much that it caused more trauma to the area than if she were relaxed. He must be feeling really bad if he doesn't like shots and didn't complain about this one. Here's hoping he feels like his old self soon!

I've had strep once, a couple of years ago. I was sicker than I've ever been. I was fine and within an hour I felt like I'd been hit by a truck. I ached all over, throat was so raw I couldn't even swallow, and I felt miserable. I couldn't stand noise and when the kids got too noisy I cried and went to my room--what a basket case I was!

I read about strep and everything I read said that it was unlikely that an adult would get strep if they'd never had it before.

I was better within 24 hours of starting the meds. Once I started feeling better my favorite thing to drink was egg drop soup. It coated the throat nicely.

Can you get his Dr. to perscribe liquid Lidocaine? My Dr. called this in for me when I had strep so bad that I couldn't sleep on account of the pain. It worked well enough to allow me to sleep.

I've heard of the shot for strep but I've never had that treatment. I think that I took Erythromycen (sp?) when I had strep.
