When I drove home today, and shut the engine off, I heard the doors make a noise like they were unlocking. ( I have a '96 Camry) Went to open the driver's door and I COULDN"T GET OUT!!! Pushed the button, manually to unlock the door, tried to open the driver's door again, and still was unable to open the door! I finally managed to get out of the car by crawling over the middle console and exiting out the passenger side! I went around to the driver's side on the outside of the car and used the key and opened the driver's door. But, if I get in the car and try to get out from the inside, I can't open the door! I thought maybe if I started the engine again and shut the car off it would undo whatever was screwed up but that didn't work. Even the guy at the car dealership doesn't know what the problem is and told me to bring it in Sat. morning. Well, the thought of climbing over the middle console until Saturday morning didn't appeal to me so I've thought of a temporary "fix". Now to get out of the car, I will unroll the window and reach outside the car and open it that way!
I don't think this is something I should have to pay to get fixed. Am I wrong in thinking a car shouldn't have the ability to lock you inside? What if there was an emergency and I needed to get out in a hurry? I think I'm going to have to be a tuffcookie with the mechanic and service manager Saturday!
