Has anyone done a day trip to VB recently while staying at WDW?

How did you set it up? Did you call the resort ahead of time? Any problems with getting past the guard shack?

We are going to OKW in late June with friends who have never been down to WDW... Our friends want their kids to see the ocean... I figured that by the time we get a rental car, drive to Cocoa Beach (or somewhere like that), find a beach, park the car, and get settled it'd be 2+ hours...

Given that, we may as just as well go to VB for the day... The kids could see the ocean, plus we'd have have access to the resort's activities if (and when) the kids want to do something else... Plus we'd be able to eat at Shutter's when it came to lunch or dinner...

DW and I own at VB and have been there SEVERAL times... We absolutely love the place, and get homesick for it the minute we ever have to leave from there.. I also thought that this may be a great opportunity for our friends to see another aspect of DVC that they won't be able to see from WDW...

I would certainly call the resort ahead of time to make sure it was ok to go and possibly pool-hop...

Any thoughts or input would be appreciated.. Thanks! :santa:

You could certainly park in the business offices area (or across the street) and walk around the resort, but access to the pool requires a room key. And I can't remember if you need the key to get out to the ocean, but you definitely need it to get back in. There is public access to the beach though on the street (Wabasso Beach Rd) on the north side of the resort.

I have never heard of VB issuing a "Day Pass", but I guess it wouldn't hurt to call them and ask what can be done. I also don't know how/if pool hopping applys to VB. Do other resorts require a room key to enter their pool? I don't remember.

Good luck, hope you can work something out.

Vero Beach is not included in DVC Pool Hopping. There are guards posted and key entrance required locks at all gates. Wristbands are put on guests as well.

You will need to rent a villa for one night if you wish to use the facilities for a day trip. I would definitely consider doing this if I had my heart set on visiting there. Then you will have access (for the number of people reserved in the room).

If I didn't want to spend a night at VB, I would go east to the nearest public beach. The extra time heading south and then back north seems like a waste of time to me.
