Has anyone had a magic band stop working?

I know when they came out Disney stated the batteries should last 2-3 years. I'm curious as to whether anyone has had one stop working due to the battery dying? I'd just like to know how long I can expect a couple of special ones I have to last.

Guests have no good way of knowing if the battery is dead.

MB batteries are NOT NEEDED for anything that a guest can "do" with them.
No batteries are required for using MBs at the park gates ("tickets") or scanning for FP+, or charging back to the resort room, or opening the resort doors.
A MB can, in effect, be used "forever" for the purposes I listed above (and any other "touch to scan" purpose.)

The MB battery is only involved in "long range" situations, like automatically triggering the on-ride videos or photos on a few attractions.

The short-range functions that don't depend on the battery should work indefinitely. I have a MB from the initial test period that still works for park entry and FP+, but I don't get ride photos "automagically" with it anymore, which is one of the long-range functions.

we have ours from 2 years ago. We will bring them as back ups in case the new ones we were sent get lost.

I also plan to use the old one specifically as a gate key at the resort. I hate having to remove my band from my right wrist to get onto the resort parking lot. The readers are too far from the cars to just stick your arm out.
