Has anyone gone without any plans?????

Thanks everyone. I'm feeling much better with doing it the way I want. We've been before so I do know what my girls would like to see/do.

I just want to relax and not run around like a chicken with its head cut off;)

We are totally winging it!! :lmao: 7 days left to work out the rest but we ADR'd ourself's out in 2005, and with kids that are so picky I dont want to pay that so they can just turn their nose up at the food that comes :snooty: we are taking my BIL and he has never been, but he has advised me that he will be Drinking around the world showcase (oh course he hears that one) We only check the hours and are avoiding EMH and taking on Star Wars Weekend! Here's to no more rain!! :rolleyes1 and we will have a blast! :woohoo:

I am this time mostly. The only plan I want to put together is something for our SWW days so we see what we want.
Oh wait - I did put together a short list of fun stuff to look for like the singing in the rain umbrella at DHS.

We've been so many times now that we don't really need them.

I booked 6 days out for Memorial Day weekend/Star Wars Weekend this year and had absolutley no plans. My experience? I would like a LITTLE planning, which I think you have.

We had no ADR's and went to whatever parks we could fit it...and I was kinda sick of counter service meals by the end of it..hope this helps!

I have never made a single plan for disney and have enjoyed every single trip I have been on. I am going Sunday with my friend and we haven't even so much as thought out a plan. (In fact, I just asked her if she wants me to plan park days or just wing it). The most I have ever planned is what parks to go to and what days. Now in a month I am going back for a 2 week honeymoon and that I have planned. Basically I just planned it to make sure we get the full value out of our park hopper and water park tickets. I want to make sure we do enough. Of course, knowing me, we will get there and the plan will go right in the suit case and never come out. We do have 3 ADRs (yep, only 3 in 2 weeks because I don't want to be forced to a dinner or lunch schedule) and are planning to see La Nouba so those things are planned.

I definitely do NOT plan where to go upon entering the park and I have NEVER had a problem seeing or doing everything in 7 days, even though I have waited in my fair share of long lines. I just take it all in and relax as much as possible in Disney.

We did and we had a great time. We had no set plans. The only thing is we did plan the fast pass strategy with Soarin' and Toy Story. Other than that we winged it! Good Luck!

We are going to Disney for the first time in 3 weeks, and I've spent so much time on these boards, if I was getting paid for it, I'd be rich! At first I was going to plan everything, then I decided against it. We've never been there! How can you really make plans for something like that, in a place that big? We know that we will always have the opportunity to go back, and we also know that in 7 days, we won't be able to do and see it all. So, we got on the CS dining plan (to make life easier), we made 1 ADR, and we roughly picked what park we wanted to go to each day, which we of course aren't bound to. We also each picked 1 thing in each park that we absolutley HAD to do--so that makes 8 things that we HAVE to do/see in the 7 days that we are there (and one of them is our ADR). And, we decided that as long as we do those things we will be happy! To each their own, but I'm very much the type of person that if I try to schedule things, and then don't get to finish my schedule, or my schedule gets thrown off...then I get upset--so why set yourself up for failure?! I highly doubt Disney is closing anytime soon--I'll go back next year, and the year after and the year after, until I've seen it all--

My family and I always go without plans (aside from reservations and the like). When we wake up that morning, we do what we feel like and what everyone agrees on. We have fun every time! Plans aren't necessary IMO.

Have fun!

 I cant tell you how many times we have had the "well guys we are in the car where are we going talk" lol WE LOVE IT! We have never left going "darn I wished we had done more"

The funny thing is I get all my plans and everything and say ok today were doing this, this and this, blah blah blah..and by the time we get there, we just do whatever we feel like doing anyway..we never make adr's, we say well if there booked, it wasn't meant to be. My family stays at the parks from rope drop to firework time, we have a 13, 9, and 5 yr old, and none of them tire too fast, no naps, no nothing, we just go, and have fun, we try not to run through, and we just enjoy the time we have. When me and dh went, we ate at some nice places in Epcot, our longest wait was 10 min..we actually done the ws 3 times! We tried to eat or drink our way around the world, but only had enough room for so much!! :thumbsup2

I always make dinner ADRs for the length of our stay. Those are the only plans I make. I've changed and cancelled ADRs once we are at WDW. Most times we decide what we want to do for the day when we are at breakfast. As far as the attractions go - if we go by and there isn't a long wait - we go on. We've been to WDW so many times that if we don't get into an attraction - I'm not disappointed.

The mere thought of just winging it at WDW makes me feel anxious.

Now, I don't plan things down to the minute or anything... and there's always room for change... but I do plan what parks each day, what meals we will eat (even counter service) and a loose touring plan (especially a morning strategy). For US, it makes the trip far more enjoyable and stress-free. If we don't plan these things ahead, we waste a tremendous amount of time trying to figure things out on the fly, everyone ends up starving by the time we finally eat, we miss key attractions and most of all there is just this feeling of chaos and confusion. Plus, for US, planning is a big part of the fun.

I think the only way I'd wing WDW is if I was going for at least 12 full days with no children, just DH and I. Even still, I think I'd plan out a general itinerary because I'm a bit OCD like that.

We go without planning sometimes. The last time we left the house in Kissimmee on our way to AK, but when we got on Disney property we decided Epcot. Then we walked the countries to decide where to eat lunch before we hopped on the boat to go to DHS . On the way back to Epcot we got off the boat to get icecream at Beaches, but at the last second decided to eat supper there and had a burger instead . It was just a good day and fun to just wing it.

It's wonderful to sleep in, have a leisurely breakfast, walk out to the resort bus stop, and take the first bus that happens along. Just walk around and hang out.

It's nice, because everyone has their say, and everyone gets accommodated in one way or another, rather than one person saying, "We're going here because the itinerary I made says so!"

I don't have much of a plan, and it's starting to freak me out a little. I need to spend a little time this weekend figuring out when and where our ADRs are so I can at least get that organized. I did that when I made them, of course, b ut I want to review.
It's getting soooo close!

It's so interesting reading everyone's strategies! I definitely don't feel like there's a "wrong" way to do Disney. We all have our different personalities and expectations for a trip.

We went on our first trip with no plan (didn't even have a clue about how to make one -- I didn't DIS back then ). There was entirely TOO much time spent in the hot sun, everyone looking at each other like, "what do we do next?" and everyone getting frustrated because no one could make a decision. That was enough of that for me.

Our next trip, I planned (mostly where we would start each day, which rides to FP, the general direction we would travel, etc). I can't tell you how much better it turned out for everyone. I took everyone's priorities into account, and we all got to see what we wanted with minimal waits and no looking cluelessly at each other waiting for someone to make a decision. LOVED it!

The mere thought of just winging it at WDW makes me feel anxious.
My wife and I are exactly the opposite from you ... the mere thought of following a plan at Disney makes me feel nervous. :rotfl:

Before my first family trip, I read all the major books, joined The DIS (and some other sites), and gathered all of the book knowledge I possibly could. In other words, I knew what would be best to do in any given situation. This works well for me, because we never know what situation we'll find ourselves in.

My wife and I both work full-time in very demanding, high-stress jobs ... the LAST thing we want from our vacations is having to follow plans. We just want to relax and go with the flow.

For a weeklong trip, we grudgingly make maybe 2 ADRs because we want to make sure our kids get some character meals. Other than that, we prefer counter-service meals. The idea of having to watch the time to make sure we're at a certain place at a certain time sucks all the enjoyment out of a situation for us ... I just can't enjoy myself and lose myself in the moment because I always have one eye on my watch.

So we prefer counter-service meals. And by the way, counter-service doesn't have to equal unhealthy and unappetizing. During our second trip, we were in the midst of training for our first-ever half marathon, and there was no way we were going to assult our bodies with fried foods and cheeseburgers. Using sites like allears.net, I knew which counter-service places suited us.

Now, here's where I make all of the planners' heads explode ... just guess how we decide which park we do on which day? Ready .... ? We let our kids decide that morning, or at the very earliest the night before. Yes, even when the kids were 5 and 2.5 on our first trip, and up to almost-9 and 6 on our most recent trip 3 months ago, we let the kids decide where we're going. The trip is mostly about them, anyway.

And no, we don't miss anything we want to see. And we tour the parks quite efficiently. As I said before, I know the parks. I know basic strategy. I know the dos and don'ts. I just don't decide exactly what we will do and on what days. Take Epcot for example. I know to get Soarin' FASTPASSes ASAP. I know to wait on Spaceship Earth until mid-afternoon when we leave to go back to the hotel, and so on. I am an absolute FASTPASS ninja, by the way. Lack of planning doesn't have to mean lack of knowledge.

It works for us. We have a blast, we do and see everything we want to do and see, and we relax while doing so. I can see how this might drive other people nuts. But let me tell you ... if you offered me a free WDW trip but I had to stick to a plan of specific meals and parks and whatnot, I think I'd say "Thanks but no thanks."

It's wonderful to sleep in, have a leisurely breakfast, walk out to the resort bus stop, and take the first bus that happens along.

That's exactly how we do it :thumbsup2 We've been fortunate enough to visit the parks several times before so we know the parks and don't feel the need to make a plan. Our last couple of trips we've basically let DS decide what to do....if he wants to ride Barnstormer all night, no big deal to us. Because we've been there before we don't feel like we're missing out. We know all about the parades, the rides, the Fastpass system, ADRs, etc. I think it would stress me out more to have a plan to keep track of ;)

I completely agree with CleveRocks, "Lack of planning doesn't have to mean lack of knowledge"

I have never planned what we are going to be doing. I did plan the ADR this year so know which parks to go to which day but other than that I don't plan. My kids know which rides they like and already know to get the fastpasses but other than that no. I found it stressful picking at places to eat to get the ADR and don't think I will buy the food plan next time because of that. Before we have always done the counter service and that worked fine because I don't know when I will be hungry. If I buy an ice cream at 4:00 changes are I don't want dinner at 5:30.

Planning every thing would be to stressful and I would rather enjoy my vacation.
