Has Anyone Gone to the MK on a Monday Recently?

With us staying off site and not being eligible for EE and Sunday being EE at MK, I was planning on doing MK on Monday. But Sehlinger says that Monday is one of the busy days for MK during the summer.

Has anyone been there recently on a Monday? Could you tell me about the crowds?

Another detail is that Spectro will be presented on Monday (and Wednesday too), and I know that it usually makes things CRAZY. But Spectro is definately something that we will not miss.

Any thoughts?

THANKS! :)

We were there early--nearly first through the turnstiles-- on Monday, July 14 and found it to be a WONDERFUL time to be at MK. We did many, many rides (all the Fantasyland ones at least once, plus Toontown and meeting Mickey, POC, and Jungle Cruise fastpass) by about noon. It was really pleasant. After lunch it started getting pretty crazy so we went back to the hotel, so I'm not sure how the rest of the day was compared to other days. We also went on Tuesday afternoon/evening, Thursday morning EMH, and Friday morning at opening, and Monday morning was definitely the least crowded of those times (though Friday at opening wasn't bad). Not sure if this easy Monday was a fluke, but for us it was a great time.

We were there Monday, June 30th and also found it to be wonderful in the morning. I believe Sehlinger has updated that portion of the Unofficial Guide. It's out there somewhere on the web.

There's also the theory that the best day to go to a park is the day AFTER EE. Since MK's EE is Sunday, Monday tends not to draw those same people again.

Definitely get there early. We made a PS for Crystal Palace and were able to get in the park before opening. We did the same thing at AK.

One negative was that Monday was a Spectro day, so the park got really packed in the afternoon and the evening.

The reason that I chose Monday was because it was the day after EE and so I figure it should be somewhat slower. (It used to be that Sunday was a really good day for the MK, but not since they changed the days of EE, I imagine.) We are staying off site, so we are using the "Day After Rule."

I figure that we cannot avoid large crowds later in the PM with Spectro, but, as I said, it is a "do not miss" for our family and so we will brave the crowds. :)

Thanks for the info! :)

I was there on a couple of Mondays recently, in July. Get there by 8:30, and the morning should go very smoothly for you. I found it didn't really start to get unbearable until after noon -- and then, the biggest annoyance was the heat!

Seriously, with a little planning and a clear strategy, you can do a lot in the mornings, even if you can't take advantage of EE.

Interestingly we also went to MK on 7/14 also but late in the day -called for fastpass ticket on Splash (85 mins standby wait - our fastpass time was 3 hours later) before boarding boat to GF for dinner at 1900 Park Fare at 6pm. Went back later and it was manic - stayed for Spectro and fireworks even though it had started raining hard. In fact it was so packed we had intended leaving BEFORE Spectro but Main Street was wall to wall people and we literally had no choice but to stay(couldn't see much of Spectro though - we were too far back!. No Tinkerbell that night.

Luckily we were in the World another week and went again the following Tuesday night (vowed to avoid Monday) and it was much better - got a great spot watching the parade on Liberty Square 15mins before parade time (try in front of the Christmas shop - just behind a little wooden fence) - fewer crowds and no rain and we eventually saw Tink.

I wanted to try to see Specto on Monday to give us another chance on Wednesday in case it is bad on Monday.

I think that it is best for us to just expect horrendous crowds in the evening (and exactly why I am trying to avoid SATURDAY at MK  ), and try to deal with it. I think for sure that we will not try to leave immediately after FITS. Last time we stayed and had ice cream and waited until things cleared out. :)

If you go, then go early! We were there Monday July 7th, in the evening, and it was packed!!! Wall to wall people, lines for everything!!!

We were also there on Monday, July 14. We did not get there til about 10:30. (We had been at Epcot and MGM the day before and found it almost empty - scary). When we go to MK, we all said, so this is where all the people are. It was packed. 45 - 60 minute wait for Peter Pan, etc. My daughter was very upset that we did not do Big Thunder Mountain twice. We tried again later in the eve. but it rained. Wall to wall people. Walked through a few places to eat, waited and waited for tables. Start early and good luck. You gotta go sometime right?:D

This brings up an interesting question. Due to circumstances, we plan to go to MK in the evening/night on Monday, Aug 11. We're going back on Wednesday for both the morning and evening. We want the Monday to be an "explore" night. My wife likes to explore and not be dragged from attraction to attraction. I want to get this over with on Monday so we can hit the big ones on Wednesday.

Anyway, Monday night, I want to do some of the High-capacity (but minor) attractions. I'm thinking HOP, the steamboat. What else would fit into this category?

(BTW, no parade for us. My kids are wierd and have no interest...)

How about TTA? It's always been a minor wait for us, regardless of time of day, what month or day we've visited, etc. It's probably one of my top 5 favorites, too (yes, I am a geek). I liked it just as much when it was the WEDway Peoplemover and John Fiedler (the original voice of Piglet) did the narrative.

I'd love to hear about other attractions in this category. We'll be arriving late morning on a Sunday, and dh won't want to go anywhere else but the MK first.

I am also going on Monday August 11th and Wednesday August 13th to MK. Funny how we picked the same days...

Yes, and it was VERY crowded. If at all possible, try to do MK on either Tuesday or Friday.

Minor Attractions

Carousel of Progress - will still be open - walked right into this each time - no wait.

TTA

Haunted Mansion wasn't too bad, even on the busy nights.

Take the raft to Tom Sawyers Island - as long as it's not too late

Hall of Presidents

Tiki Birds

Haunted Mansion was not bad at night at all like pigby said. Also no wait for COP, great way to get in the air conditioning and relax those feet.

We were just at the MK on July 28 and August 4 and the crowds were unbearable!!!!!! There were VERY LONG waits for mostly everything and even the fastpass lines were ridiculous!!! The only other days that we ever experienced crowds like these were Christmas Day and New Years Eve!!!!!!

August 4 was wall to wall people. We went in the morning at rope drop and got some rides done in fantasyland and tomorrowland and we left by noon. Even at noon, the crowd were so thick we could barely walk down Main Street. I have never seen it that bad and I was at MK the Friday after Thanksgiving (which is supposed to be really busy) and this was MUCH worse.

Hi BethR,

According to our latest data, Monday is neither the best (Friday or Saturday) nor worst (Sunday, Thursday for you) day to visit the Magic Kingdom. If I was staying off-site, I'd probably use the "Day After" rule as well.

If you've not seen it, the Unofficial Guide has a free interactive utility that tells you the best and worst days to visit each park based on your specific vacation plans. That page can be found here: www.TouringPlans.com/BestDays.htm.

Hope this helps. Have a great trip.

Sincerely,

Len Testa
