Has anyone flown lately?

Am I going to be able to bring anything on board the airplane to keep my DS (5) busy during the flight? If I can't bring crayons or something, anything, he will be hard to put up with. Any suggestions?

I couldn't imagine you not being able to bring crayons and a coloring book/paper on the flight....(If you can bring lipstick...I'm sure you can bring crayons :))
I'm pretty sure as long as it's not certain liquids (or electrical, depending where your flying from) you should be fine.
However, you should probably check out the TSA's website for a complete list...just to give you peace of mind and make packing easier...

(the above is a link to their permitted/prohibited items, they should have any other info you need on the site as well)

Nank, I just got home from Alaska last week and, boy howdy, was this confusing for a few people. I even got in a debate with the taxi driver who claimed no liquids, gels, pastes, etc could go on board at all. I said they were okay in checked luggage. We went back and forth for awhile in disagreement until he triumphantly stated he'd just put his mom on a plane three days prior so he should know. The fact that I'd just gotten off a plane twenty minutes before getting in his cab seemed to go right over his head. Very funny encounter!! :rotfl2:

Anyway....crayons will be fine. And electronics were okay, too, as long as they don't send/receive a signal. We've taken puzzle books for the kids and dvds to play on dad's laptop.

We flew 2 weeks ago(airtran) and a little one sitting neaer stayed busy coloring.Another idea would be a sticker book with the flat magnetic pieces. How long is your flight?Maybe take a goody bag with something different that you can take out every few minutes!Cards, toy cars,I personally love a view master, books and maybe a small puzzle.Hopefully you don't have a long flight! :cool1:

Thanks for the responses. What I was worried about was that I was hearing that you could literally take NOTHING on the plane with you. No carry ons, no water, nothing. I just want to bring some things to keep him busy in his seat. We are flying from NJ so it is a 2 1/2 - 3 hr flight. Thanks.

We went to and from Orlando last week with a 3 and 7 yo. As someone said, there was a lot of confusion, but we could take most things on. Took crayons, paper, Gameboy (just have off during take-off and landing/ per usual..) And a big hit, that I got at the Disney store, were little "clickable" toys (one Pooh, one Stich) - any ones with bendy arms and legs would be good. ( DH thought the older son wouldnt like it- not "cool" - but he clicked that thing all the way to Orlando and up to the hotel and used it other days too!) I think it was just the constant movement of his hands and being busy that kept him amused, and seeing the variety of positons he could get it into - that toy was both the biggest surprise to us and biggest godsend...

(ps- the 3 yo was most amused when the lady in the seat next to him showed him pictures of her neice on her cell phone - go figure, but thanks lady!)
