I received a 21 day trial offer on a gardening book by Jerry Baker. For all you who don't know him, he's the guy who is occasionally on PBS with tips on how to get a better garden or get rid of bugs with homemade solutions. I'm wondering if anyone has ever tried one of his solutions on their plants and if so, how did it work?

There was one hint for sweeter tomatoes. Before you plant the tomato, put a tsp or so of sugar at the bottom of the hole you dug for the tomato plant. I did that for all my tomato plants yesterday. I hope the tomatoes will come out really sweet this summer.

We've followed some of Jerry's techniques and they worked pretty well! Mostly on the yard, though. I use his tonics on our yard and it is thriving. I decided to go with his methods when we no longer felt comfortable using a lawn service.

His books are a great read! :)

as Jerry calls it. He's always buying cheap beer, dishsoap, ammonia or (!)chewing tobacco or something but your yard has NEVER looked better. He also uses the flat coke left in two liter bottles. Jerry's theories about using less fertilizer and herbicide/pesticide work great for us.
