yes - we did use CCCS for debt consolidation and had a very positive experience. They enabled us to pay off $50k in debt. It did not affect our credit score and we bought a house during the process. I would recommend watching statements carefully because in the beginning some of the cards did not note the reduced interest rate.
For CCCS to work for you, you need to be in the mindset of no more credit card debt and be ready for a total change in lifestyle. We were trying to keep up with the Jones's and our salaries did not reflect the ability. We learned so much throught the process about money and ourselves. This was in the mid-90's.
There is nothing more freeing than being debt free and having a savings account and an emergency fund.
Depending on the amount of debt, I would also suggest Dave Ramsey's plan. We have been debt free for over 8 yrs and I still listen to Dave Ramsey.
