I was just wondering if anyone had ever used their points for a stay at the Kapalua Bay Hotel on Maui? If so, what can you tell me about it and about the process of trading your points....and how did you like it? I'm thinking it would be so nice to do a Hawaii trip sometime in the near future.

We've only had one trip home to BCV so this is all new to me.

Thanks for any info. you can provide.

We spent a week there in September and it was great!! The rooms are very nice and the resort is beautiful. Maui was awesome, we can't wait to go back!!

Be sure to realize that this is a Concierge Collection HOTEL and not a timeshare exchange. An Interval exchange will cost far less points and have 1 or 2 bedroom accommodations like DVC, where the Kapalua Bay is a hotel room and costs FAR more points. The difference is the convenience of being able to book a definate time instead of waiting for an exchange to come through. I decided the points were too high for the CC hotels. I am willing to wait for the exchange. Going to Hawaii for us is a long flight, and we don't want to do it for less than 2 weeks. We are going to be starting another II exchange search next month for Maui or Kauai. We will keep the request very open by asking for any 1 or 2 bedroom on either island any time between 1/1/06 and 6/1/06. After we get one week exchange, we will then try to search for something 1 week either side of the first one for the Big Island of Hawaii. The Big Island is our favorite, and is easiest to get an exchange to. That is why we will do that search last. If an exchange doesn't come through before 1/31/06, I'll make other arrangements or just leave the search open and plan to search again after the time for the search expires.

I haven't stayed at the kapalua beach hotel, But I have stayed at the neighboring Ritz Carlton. Kapalua is quiet and beautiful. Just up the street about a half a mile is a nature preserve with great snorkeling. We have seen tons of fish and turtles. It is windy at Kapalua so you need to be prepared for that. The trade winds can be really strong. But, for walks, and R&R, you cannot go wrong. The bay hotel is very nice. I would also look into a condo at the marriott on kannapali in Maui. I agree with the previous poster. It is not windy their you can walk to wailers village for icecream and shopping. The pool is great, the units are newer. It would take alot less points. However, I don't know how hard it is to trade to the marriott there.

Trading into Maui Marriott is tough but is a better use of points. We have stayed at Kapalua Bay on cash and on points. We love it. It is quiet and very "Hawaiian" themed. The last time we were there on points we had a huge room with a large lanai overlooking the front of the hotel (can't remember if it was ocean or partial ocean view). We like the fact that it is just a short drive to the activity areas of Kaanapali and Lahaina, but it has a more relaxed and exclusive feel. I wish that they would add their condos to the II exchange program. We have also stayed in them and they are wonderful. Have never checked into a direct exchange with an owner there but may do so someday.

This hotel is beautiful and I different experience than the high-rise hotels. It is so serene. It is not a condo but you do get a large room with a large bathroom. It is very Hawaiian. We also stayed one night at a big resort hotel(can't think of the name right now)- the one with the huge water park in it. Very expensive. Once we are back home, my boys who were teens liked the Kapalua experience better. There's a wonderful cove that doesn't have that many people in it to snorkel. Kapalua is so laid back. We had a room on the first floor and could walk out on the lawn and right to the pool and hot tub. (Hot tub was big). There was a wedding on the lawn one night when we were there. Sunsets were beautiful. If you want lots of bells and whistles though this doesn't have them. It is high class tasteful elegance though.

I doubt if there is a spot on that side of the Island that doesn't have beautiful sunsets! I have some incredible pictures taken of the many in that area! I think it is why we prefer that side of the island.
