Has anyone ever packed more than a week early?

I always have to pack the night before because we're usually doing laundry right before to make sure my husband has everything clean.

It's hard for me to be completely packed too far in advance. I'll start the week before, but I'll be doing laundry and adding it to the sutcases up until the night before we leave. Maybe we just don't have enough clothes :confused3 Then toiletries go in the morning of after showers. So we aren't completely packed until 10 minutes before we walk out the door.

Inevitably, my husband always has to make a last minute run to Walmart for something the night before we leave, even though I remind him for weeks to get new socks, underwear, toiletries, whatever.

I would pack early if I lived outside FL. Since I only live 2.5 hours away from the port, I usually pack 2 or 3 days before. DW and i went on an Alaskan cruise last June, I was packed 2 weeks before. When I needed deoderant, I would grab it out of the suitcase!!!:lmao:

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who does this!!

Usually I'm packed at least 2 weeks ahead of time! If it's a big trip with the kids I'll start a 6 weeks ahead of time!

I leave in 10 days and surprisingly I haven't packed yet! I haven't even taken the suitcase out! I do have a pile on top of my dresser of all the stuff I want to bring!

Who unpacks?

:thumbsup2
Unpack to wash stuff. Most of what I take on cruise I don't wear normally. Suitcase will get packed in summer for cruise in Dec.

Steamers - isn't that one of the uses for taking a really hot shower:goodvibes Seems to me those create enough steam.

My suitcase always remains packed. When we return from a cruise, the clothes are washed and re-packed. (And any clothes that are unused weren't needed and can be removed.) I don't find that the clothes are any more wrinkled than if I threw them into the suitcase a few days before travelling.

I start to pack months out but its easy for me to do that. Its coming up to winter here and we are just about done with our summer clothes. Our cruise is August so its great to be able to get all our summer stuff into the suitcase and out of the wardrobe.

We almost always start packing about 30+ days in advance ... though mostly the little items needed ONLY for a cruise ... items not needed at home. That being said, we lay out out clothes about 2 weeks in advance. Rolling clothes is best at keeps clothes wrinkle-free. On the other hand, if you find something is really wrinkled, there is onboard laundry (including a free iron) OR ... you can have a garment PRESSED for about the same price as a local, land based cleaners (typically, about 1/2 the cost of having the item cleaned and pressed). With that in mind ... we have had NO issues with packing for the past 13 years of cruising. Only ONCE, did we ever have to get my tux pressed ... and that was only because I folded it several times into a Pullman (luggage), instead of using a garment bag. Most everything else is fine.
:yay:

I booked my fantasy cruise last september and started packing then. I'm not competly packed just my day bag. I have an ideal on what i will pack in my head. To be honest i never really unpackedd from my last disney trip back in 2004. Hey dose any one know how to pack a formal dress. :confused3

I packed mine and DD's clothes about 2 weeks in advance. What I do is iron them, and then put them in plastic bags (for DD there is an outfit in each one, which makes getting dressed much easier!) and for me it's about 2 or 3 pieces of clothing folded and put in the bag. The bags slide around easily in the suitcase and actually help minimize wrinkles. I just use large zip loc bags, nothing fancy. We also carry a steamer, but honestly I didn't need it for any of our stuff. HTH.

OK, now you've got me curious... What is a "cruise bucket"?

I have a large rubbermaid type bin in the corner of my bedroom - as I see stuff for the cruise (or any vacation/trip) that's on sale, I buy it and put it in the Bucket! This way - I'm not running around the week before trying to find stuff on sale to take with me - like a night light, over the door shoe holder (can't use one at home - the cat thinks its Mount Everest!), etc.

Once the summer's over here in Atlanta, I'll grab a bottle of sunscreen on clearance and throw it in the bucket....

See - got all my vacation stuff and didn't have to worry about it last minute.

It also helps me to see when I'm buying TOO much stuff! But honestly... that *never* happens! :rotfl:

OK, now you've got me curious... What is a "cruise bucket"?

It is basically clear storage bins I buy from costco. I have about 5 of them.

On one I put all my capri's, shirts in, the other I put in all my shoes/sandals , the third one I put in pj's robes, swimsuits, cover ups etc...

It's all the new clothes and stuff I buy on sale at the end of summer that is on clearance and I save for my next cruise.

So, a month before we cruise I just transfer all the stuff to a couple of suitcases and I am ready to go.

Since I live in California, all the clothes I buy I can use here in the following summer months since where I live we get up to 110 degrees in the summer

Depends on what's happening in my life. Mustn't be much as I started to pack for our July cruise 3 months early.

I have a carry on always half packed and an old suitcase full of things I need for travel (adapters, US GPS, travel toiletries etc...)
