Has anyone ever had problems with Disney gift cards from Target?

I have used Target-purchased Disney cards dozens of times with no activation issues. I do take the receipt with me to DL, because if there was a problem I'd need to fix it on the spot, not wait til I got home. Just my paranoia though-better to be prepared for anything! Even for the 2.50 on 50-hey, it's almost like getting a free churro when you buy a gc! :)

I bought 4 $50.00 Disney GC cards from Target online. When I tried to pay them toward a cruise it turned out none had been activated. I have called and they have promised to respond but it is taking them an unusually long time to fix. Maybe they are busy!
Disney gift cards were purchased Nov. 10th and problem still not resolved.

Did Target ever resolve this problem for you? Or are you still out $200?

The first call they could get two cards activated but two they could not activate. Both times I called they said they would contact me later the same day but did not.
I will call for the third time this Thursday, Since I don't need the Gift cards immediately I wasn't pushing too hard in light of their major immediate problems.

I do wish you luck. Every time I call, Target Customer Service tells me to call Disney, and Disney tells me to call Target.

I bought $500 worth of cards for spending money on a Disney cruise. One of the cards wasn't activated. Disney took care of it but if I do this again I'll check my cards as soon as I get them to make sure they are activated.

FYI, there's an app you can download to check balances and keep track of your Disney gift cards. We have a system in which we number each one with a Shapie and name them th corresponding number in the app. Never had a problem, but keeping the receipt is a good idea.

Was this card purchased in a Target store, or Target online?
Thanks.

Thanks.

I bought them at a Target store using my pharmacy rewards and the normal 5% off with my redcard. It was such a bummer because my dh didn't want to deal with the cards to begin with so when he took our cards to guest services and they said one did not work he was really upset. Thankfully after two days they left us a message in our room letting us know they worked it out.

What's the name of the app? I just got a bunch of cards as an xmas gift.

That's horrible :( I'm glad they could work it out but what a pain!

It gets really complicated when you buy Disney gift cards at Target online, and they arrive not activated.
Trying to explain this to someone in India is very unpleasant!

I have bought $7000 worth of cards over a couple transactions and have had no problem. That's a $350 savings for me. Cha ching :firefight

I just posted this in the other target Screw Up thread. BEWARE..I will not be shopping at Target again. Horrible CS.

Because of this thread I checked the ones I had purchased for this trip..leaving Saturday. Sure enough $500 worth weren't activated. I called Target and oh my lord, the wait time is unbearable. Yes, I get they are overwhelmed by all the peiople who were hacked and now the ones who don't have GC activated, but they should have everyone on deck and knowledgable on how to deal with this. A reaction to a problem is very telling about a company and I am disgusted with Target. Not only did I have to make several phone calls, wait times were ridiculous, operators are clearly not in America and do not understand what you are asking. They go from a script and cannot comprehend your true issue. I had to repeat OVER and OVER that these were DISNEY gift cards purchased at TARGET then they would ask for the number even though I'd explained there were TEN numbers for TEN cards..then after reading a number would be told..that is not a Target gift card..and on and on, being put on hold, transferred, etc for literally 2 hours. Then I finally find out this issue must be handled by a SPECIALIST who were ALL off yesterday. Knowing this was as issue they didn't think to ramp up staffing? So now I get to look forward to calling back this morning and burning up my day again..all for their error. I looked up the order for what must of been this batch and naturally there are no numbers of the cards, just qty 10. I don't have a Target near by and do all my shopping with them online. But this has really dampened my respect for them.

AMEN what a nightmare. I feel your pain:furious:

Never had a problem. To be sure as soon as I buy the card I check the balance via my app or you can do by phone to confirm the card has the amount it should have. Then I take a photo of the number and pin.

When I hear these stories (and there are a few people on the Dis who have had this problem) I don't want to deal with the gift cards despite the amazing cost savings. Were your cards purchased online or in the store?

When I hear these stories (and there are a few people on the Dis who have had this problem) I don't want to deal with the gift cards despite the amazing cost savings. Were your cards purchased online or in the store?

They were purchased online. Here is what happened yesterday:
call #1 8:00...rings then disconnected. Call#2..put on hold at 8:04 disconnects at 8:08, Call #3 8:11 put on hold, 8:15 person speaks English (you usually get India and each of these calls iinvolves starting from scratch, being misunderstood and having to jump throguh hoops to try and get transferred)I am told I must call Disney. I do so from 8:23 to 8:34..they cannot help which is what I told the person who insisted I call (at least they have better hold music. Target's is inane and still advertising Black Friday.) back to Target Call #4 put on hold at 8:39, disconnected at 8:43,. Call #5 after pushing buttons sent to wrong menu with no ability to talk to a person. Call #6 They refer me to a different number to call which turns out to deal with Target Visa issues, Call #7 8:50, Argue with representative for a time as she is looking at wrong notes on my case and still saying the help desk is closed (referring to my 2 hours on phone on New Year's Day), put on hold at 8:55, at 8:57 there is a high pitch sound and then disconnect.Call #8, put on hold at 9:00 after insisting yet again for supervisor, 9:09 connected to non english speaker who insists that to help me I need my orginal envelope the cards came in, which I don't think I have. I am out on hold for gift card team (again), disconnects at 9:22. Call #9 Argue with abrasive guy in India about what number the gift card number is and everytime I try to read it he interrupts me saying it's the wrong number and asks for a barcode which I don't have but later find out it's on the little snap top thing I had tossed but also discover the same number is at the top of the GC. Hold from 9:30 to 9:36 I have found english speaker!I tell her I found the original envelope for whatever numbers she might need from that. She is confused saying there is no way she'd ever need original mailer info. She is polite and helpful, I give her all 10 GC numbers (the bar code numbers not the GC numbers)..she puts on hold and enters them all and thinks they all activate, and to give it 4 hours until I check. It is now 10:00 am. I do so and there are still 3 cards not activated.
If you are keeping up..that is so far, 4 hours on the phone, 7 cards that now are active and 3 cards yet to go, so I begin again this morning. On those $500 worth of cards I saved $25.00. Not worth the hassle IMO. I'm self employed and do not have the time to argue with India. Target's CS is horrible on the phone and more than frustrating. By the way I leave tomorrow and doubt the cards will be workking so now need to get the $150 I'm short out of savings. I may shop at Target again, but I will NEVER buy a gift card of any kind from them again.

We paid for our last trip almost entirely with Target Disney gift cards. After you complete your gc purchase have the cashier check the balance(s). Then if there are issues they can fix it on the spot.

I would not buy the gift cards online, I've heard way too many horror stories. I bought 28 gift cards at the store and watched the man activate them and had a receipt with the activation numbers on it. It was probably annoying for him to ring them all up but he was nice about it. I felt more bad for the Disney CM who I had to read all the numbers to over the phone :lol;

Update...Target says they ARE activated, Disney website says they AREN'T, only number to report issues about a Disney GC at Disney is a MESSAGE service..they will call you back. Naturally they didn't. Leave today -$150.00 due to Target's ineptness and Disney poor CS on this issue.
