Has anyone ever had a situation like this...

We decided after we booked our trip that we wanted to add a day...but decided against it when we realized how much the airlines charge for a change in flight plans.
Is there any way once you are there to get your return flight switched to a day later- without being charged that fee?

If you have restricted flight arrangements then you will have to pay the extra fees to have your arrangements changed. With unrestricted ticketing, you can change it without any fees, a plus, but then again unrestricted tickets are more expensive than restricted.

The discounted airline tickets are usually non-refundable, carry heavy restrictions and penalties for making changes.

A non-restrictive(usually full price fare) ticket will allow changes to be made.

Good luck.

I had the same problem as you, and out of nowhere, the airline we were using changed our flight reservations and since it was more than a 90 minute change, we were able to get a full refund and just rebook adding 2 extra days.

So maybe you could see if your flight times have changed?

I assume your tickets are not with Southwest? You can re-book with them without any additional fee except for any increase there might be in the fare for the new date.

We are flying SouthWest. I extended my trip by two days on the website. There were no fees.

The flight I chose was the same that we had been on originally and the tickets were still available for the same price.

I'm sure there would have been extra charges if the price were no longer available.

It probably differs by airline, but if you are flying SWA, it could not have been easier.
